The Student Room Group

Stop judging degrees.

Why do people judge degree subjects when they've never studied them or even have any idea about what they entail, the opportunities available after completing them etc.

Why not just let people do what they want to do and not tell others they're doing **** degrees?

Every degree is worth something different, they all provide students with different skills- there's no need for people to be so childish about it 'oh hehe my degree is better than yours hehe'.

true but we're a competitive species brah!

i know a lot of people who are born rich and tend to do "weak subjects" but hey ho.

It's not being competitive, trying to put other people down because of the subject they decided to do?

You can choose to accept it or not; some degrees are better than others.
I'm sure this thread will be very successful in stopping people judging degrees, and won't descend into yet another argument about the worthiness or lack thereof of non-stem degrees.
Pointless degrees

Anything with 'sport' in the name

Geography
Media Studies
Film Studies

Useful degrees

Mathematics
Economics
Physics
Chemistry
Engineering
Law
Medicine
Dentistry
History
English
Computer Science
Veterinary Medicine
(Sorry if I missed your degree out. Don't hate me for it )

Whether you like it or not, some degrees will give you better opportunities in life. Some graduates will end up with a degree that does not help them at all in life.
I do think this STEM master race thing is a bit ridiculous.

The fact that you can't spell "PSYCHOLOGY" just devalues this whole post.

No mate, I'm not mad

I'd say psychology ranks higher than history or English in my mind... If anything I would say remove history and English from useful and put it in pointless

Other than that I agree with your list. Although philosophy and theology need to be added to useless

Because there aren't jobs for so many graduates.

Do you really consider geography as a 'weak' subject? It's a facilitating subject and it seems to be very well respected. It can lead to quite a nice range of careers.

One spelling mistake doesn't devalue a whole post.

What's that got to do with the degree? There aren't enough Training Contracts for the amount of Law students there are, does that mean Law is a **** degree? Nope, no it doesn't.

That's why recent government statistics have shown Geography graduates to have the highest unemployment rate.

I even remember there was a news article on Geography graduates who couldn't find a job

Ah ok, fair point - I didn't know that. Can you post a link of where to find the stats?

Just by doing a really quick search, I came across this article: http://www.theguardian.com/careers/careers-blog/experts-view-why-are-certain-grads-less-likely-to-be-unemployed . I haven't read it, though!
