A-level History Essay Writing

What kind of structure is best for an AS-level history essay? I find it really difficult to write essays as I don't really know how to actually answer the question; all the facts are muddled up and I end up just writing unnecessary things! I don't understand how to be concise yet include enough information? Also how do you write your conclusions because we are required to "link" our points. I study Challenging British Dominance: the Loss of the American Colonies, 1754– 1783 and France in Revolution, 1774–1815.

Thanks!
