Hi.
I'm currently in the process of looking at what different universities that I should apply to. I know that I would like to study law.
I would really like to apply to the University of Cambridge to study there, it's just I don't know if I am competitive enough compared to the other people that will be applying to Cambridge.
If I explain;
My GCSE results weren't outstanding;
Art C
English Language A
English Literature B
I.T (Core) A
I.T (Option) A*
Mathematics C
RE A
Science Additional B
Spanish C
I know my grades aren't a perfect string of As or A*s, but I did read on the Cambridge website that there are always exceptions, and that the average applicant has 5 As/A*s and above.
The reason why there is the odd B and C is because I have have a lot of time off school due to migraines. I've had them ever since I was 9, and I also had a lot of time off at primary school too. Luckily, they have settled since I have started sixth form, but I do occasionally get the odd one.
The Cambridge website says that good A-Levels grades can make up for a less stellar GCSE performance. To an extent, how true is this? For example, say if somebody had the exact same A-Level grades? Is that when GCSE grades become important? Or are extracurriculars focused on more?
My predicted A-Level grades meet the entry requirements to study law at Cambridge;
English Language A*
English Literature A
ICT A*
And I know grades alone will not get me into Cambridge. I have done lots of other extra curricular things, such as being in the student leadership program, acting as a prefect, helping younger students as a mentor, being an ICT Subject Ambassador and helping out on school open evenings.
To summarise, I would just like some of your thoughts/opinions?
Do you think that I am competitive enough to be accepted to the University of Cambridge to study Law?
-Thank you very much.
