Economics MSc with a chem background?

Hi,

I don't know if this is the best place for this or over on the postgraduate forum.

My situation is that I graduated with a chemistry degree (2.1) a couple of years back, and have since been employed in a related field. However, I'm now thinking of switching to an economics career. My interest stems from the idea of being able to apply economic theories to policy making and analysing global trends.

I was wondering what would be the best route to go about this. UCL and a few other places offer MSc courses where economics undergrad is not required, e.g.

On the other hand, I've read that people without an economics degree are advised to take an Economics Diploma for Graduates before going onto an MSc. Is this necessary, or would it be possible for me to go for the MSc now - or would that be too hard going?
