I noticed somtimes the answer to a question in a markscheme is usually different to the one in the textbook? Can somebody lose marks if they give the correct answer for a question but the markscheme has something slightly different?

Yes. Especially for science/maths, if it's not on the mark scheme, there's a high probability they won't give you the mark - even if in theory, the answer is perfectly fine. Less so for essay based subjects like history, however.
