I think its classed as conformity/obedience since the partcipants were conforming to a higher autority figure, but don't take my word for it. It's been a while since I've read about obedience so am not hundred percent sure.

Hmmm well I don't think it's conformity really, it seems more like compliance/obediance to me. I mean it was originally intended to study the effects of imprisonment on people so it's hard to say, sorry!

Sure it was in the obedience section of the AS book, and maybe how we conform to role, ie becoming deindividuated with the hats and uniforms?

I always got it drummed into my head that it was NOT an obedience study, it should always be used in the exam as an example of conformity. However, that could have just been so we used Milgram and Hofling's for obedience seeing as they were actual obedience studies whereas Zimbardo's was conformity/obedience.
