It would depend on the type of question they ask- for example, they could say
"Using material from Item A and elsewhere, assess the claim that the main aim ofeducation policies in the last 25 years has been to create an education market".
I'm not sure, but you could maybe do this:
1) Parentocracy-David (CA- the 'myth of parentocracy'-Gerwirtz)
2)Exam league tables and funding formula (CA- Ball and Whitty- actually favours m.class)
3)New Labour- specialist schools and academies (CA- academies have had mixed results)
4)Policies relating to Gender and ethnicity e.g GIST, MCE and Social inclusion. (CA- girls now have greater access to market, ethnic minorities still discriminated against).

Can you think of another paragraph I could include?

Would you bring in any theorist views? Im not too sure cause I know it would be important for evaluation

I'm not sure, do you mean what the different perspectives would recommend to create more of an 'education market', for example in the conclusion?

I mean like New Right views etc. also, do you think we could get functionalist roles of the family as a 12 marker?

I doubt the functionalist view on education will come up because it was the 20 mark last year, but you could use it as a counter argument if another perspective came up.

Guys can somebody in brief explain interpretivists and positivists to me?! I always get them confused.. but do interpretivists like to look closely at subjective personal information and would they favour personal documents for example because of this? Whereas positivists are objective and would probably prefer lab research to field because they prefer statistical scientific data?

Interpretivists look at why something happens. For example they would rather look at letters for secondary data. They have depth but not breadth.
Positivists look at what is happening. For example they would prefer statistics for secondary data. They have breadth but not depth.

Policy and Class/Marxism would be my prediction, but take that with a pinch of salt.

not sure about a full marxism question but maybe incorporated into a policy one?

I want to cry.

trust me this is nothing, and i mean nothing in comparison to A2.

I'm retaking SCLY2 education w/research methods and doesn't seem like much! I do understand your pain though! Don't worry, it'll be fine!

Anyone who did the Families and households exam good luck with your result!! How did you find it? I thought I'd make a forum where we can make predictions for the next exam/share resources etc.

My teacher didn't teach us much essay technique, so would someone be able to tell me: if a 20-mark question asks about the functionalist view of the role of education, for example, should you write purely about the functionalist view, or should you branch out and bring in the Marxist, New Right, social democratic and feminist views?

yeah, you need to first outline all the functionalist views and then do a paragraph on each of the other perspectives critiquing functionalists, that structure will give you full marks

Probably the effects of the policies on education?

E.g comprehensive schools, the tripartite system, marketisation etc and how they resulted in reinforcing inequalities
Please can someone define dependent and independent variables and how they are different as every definition is different.

The independent variable is the one that you change, the dependent is the one that you measure (I think):

Ice
Cream

Does
Melt
___
Independent
Changes

Dependent
Measured

Interpretivists are always looking for meanings for individuals. So personal documents such as diary entries and letters can tell you WHY something may have happened. E.G suicide notes (which comes up more in A2) tell you about this person and what may have driven them to commit suicide.
