Re: If you have the surname wadham are you more likely to get into wadham college?I know I shouldn't judge, but you're a prospective Oxford applicant and you're asking this question?(Original post by Ewadham)
Hi, my name is vicky wadham, I was just curious to see if having wadham as a surname would give me any advantage in applying to wadham college. Thanks.

Look up the selection criteria for your subject. -
Re: If you have the surname wadham are you more likely to get into wadham college?I've heard worse reasons to go to a college, "Why do you want to come to Emmanuel" - "because it's the only one without a religious name"(Original post by nempozpag)
Probably the opposite actually. They ask you why you picked wadham, you say "LulZ cos my suRname is liek t0tally the sam3 name, lemme in!!111"

Re: If you have the surname wadham are you more likely to get into wadham college? As well as a Templeton, apparently.(Original post by BJack)
No Mansfields at Mansfield; no News at New; no Crosses at St Cross; Mr Pembroke is at St Hilda's; Mr Wadham is at Teddy Hall; Miss Wolfson is also at Teddy Hall.
There is a Green at Green Templeton, though.

Re: If you have the surname wadham are you more likely to get into wadham college? They had no children and Nicholas was the only son of his mum's second marriage to a Wadham.(Original post by Ewadham)
No because Cambridge is named after Cambridge the city, whereas wadham college is named after the founders Nicholas and Dorothy wadham. Most probably my ancestors!Last edited by conkerina; 17-12-2010 at 14:32. -

Re: Wadham College thread
Hey,
So I'm planning to apply to Oxford, and Wadham right now is my first choice so far in colleges. I was wondering if anyone's studying/studied history there and can tell me if it's good? I mean, I know it will be good at any college, but any really small differences? (Like, is the library good/are the tutors alright etc)
Also, I do admittedly like it because of the stereotypical "left" vibe and supposed political activism. (plus the fact it's large, central, old) Do you reckon this is a good enough reason to base my college choice on?
Thanks -

your choice of college isn't so important for history (I mean, there's a 1/3 chance you'll get in somewhere else anyhow).
in first year most of the teaching will be done in college with your college tutors, in second and third year it will nearly all be done at other colleges with other tutors (depending obvs on which options you take).
but yeah, the Wadham tutors are pretty safe and the library is really good too (if you can't get hold of a book you can just ask friends at other colleges to get a copy out of their library for you), again you'll probably be doing most of your work in the History Faculty Library which is open to students from all colleges. good luck -

Re: Wadham College, Oxford Applicants 2012Most applicants have not heard anything from their college regarding interviews. You are clearly not alone. There is absolutely no need to panic, as everyone is due to have interview invitations or rejections about next Friday to the latest a week before your interview date.
