Why is your Dad converting?
My mum passed away 2 and a half years ago and the community at our synagogue was a support network for my dad, as well as already having great friends there he felt completely supported through her illness to the end. I think even now he just feels very connected to the community there.
Also, by non-Jewish I really mean he has no religion at all - also I think he's agnostic - so it's not like he's abandoning another religion, he just feels realy drawn towards the community at the synagogue and some of the traditions. -

This is true. The prohibition of Jews entering Churches but not Mosques has to do with the fact that Judaism and Christianity have little in common. Judaism has more in common with Islam, as seen by the influence of the Sufists on the Kabbalah, given that the two are both religions which affirm a single, indivisible G-d with no tolerance for idolatry. -

There is a 'box' area on the animals neck that is the right place to cut - if it's not cut in there it is not pure. The Halal 'box' is bigger than the Kosher one (which is inside the same area) so if an animal is killed in a Kosher manner, the animal was killed within the Halal 'box' as well. But if the animal was killed in the Halal manner, the cut may not be in the Kosher 'box' - so there is a chance that it is not Kosher.
Also I imagine there are different prayers. -

I was just wondering if anone knows the comparative size of the Warwick JSOC as opposed to Nottingham/Bham/Leeds.
Please let me know if I have posted this in the wrong place, but thank you any one that can help -

I don't know about the actual size of them, but Birmingham is known as a 'Jewniversity' - you can go and ONLY socialise with Jews and still have a really really full social life. So I imagine it's quite big there.
I think Leeds is fairly big as I know about 3 or 4 people who are in the JSoc at Leeds who go to my synagogue and they always seem quite busy.
As for Warwick, it's where they hold the Limmud Conference over Christmas, so I think it has a university it does have quite a large Jewish population. I certainly know a couple of people in the JSoc there. -

Limmud doesn't really have any connection with the student population, though; it's just a convenient location/size. Certainly the Warwick students I know don't know anything about it, generally.(Original post by Ponderous)

It isn't just orthodox Jews though, many non-orthodox people write G-d as well G-d... I guess it comes down to the person not the branch of Judaism?

I mean practising having conversations. Mind you, if you have been practising fo four years, your Hebrew is going to be a million times better than mine. My Hebrew is not that advanced.
