Haha ahh thats cool, quite similar then! Edinburgh is my second too - then Durham. Next week is going to go by so slowly...Im so scared!

Yup Durham is my third too although it's got higher grade requirements than Edinburgh lol

Political, Economic and Social History I think  you?

I think there're actually quite a lot of 17 year olds in the first year. Just a word though - Edinburgh is pretty relaxed with your age, but Durham is not. Don't apply to Durham, because they defer you :frown:

Really? That's good then, I was worried about being really young compared to everyone
Are you guys going to the open day next month then?

Not me, but I went to the campus tour and international student info session a while ago.

That's what I saw in the Facebook groups. I'm starting this September and actually I will be 16 in the first few months  Everything seems okay so far, except not being allowed to drink in freshers week :frown:
Ooh, some more Chemical Physicists! However, I'm still not sure if I want to go for just the straight-up Chemistry/ Physics or do a combined course.
Incidentally, I'll also be 17 for a bit of first year- but seeing as in Scotland you can theoretically go after your highers at 16, I don't think there's too much to worry about

Highers- AAAAA

Anyone else out there going for Chemistry or Physics?

Rare to see another chemical physicist! What/where else are you applying for?

Hi guys,

Do i stand a chance for law?

Achieved A-level: A*AA (religous studies, biology and chemistry)

Gcse: 3A* 6A

Thanks in advance!

Oh hey
Course: Chemical Physics
GCSE: 6A* 2A
AS prediction: AAAA (maths, FM, physics, chemistry)
A2: continuing with four, plus EPQ
Any chemist/physicist?

Hey!

I was thinking of applying for Chemical Physics, but I can't do both Advanced Higher (Scottish equivalent to A2) Physics & Chemistry, due to them clashing on my school's timetable :frown: I've chosen to do Advanced Higher Physics but really not sure whether I'd enjoy physics or chemistry more at uni tbh. Wish I could have done both :sigh:

How did you get on with your AS levels? Bit clueless on English qualifications - hope that's right haha!

Hey

I didn't know you could apply for Chemical Physics without chemistry and physics at Advanced Higher!?

My AS levels have gone brilliantly, thanks  How about your exams?

Where else are you applying for? Chemical Physics everywhere too?

In Scotland, they really only care about your Higher results (except for medicine) and you can get unconditional offers based on them. I've got chemistry and physics at Higher so I guess they'd still be able to make me an offer? The problem is that I'd probably forget a lot of chemistry by the time I got to uni. That might not work out well haha :/

That's great! Mine went really well too thanks

Chemical Physics is one of the things I've been looking into, but also stuff like Geophysics and Meteorology. Guess I need to make a decision soon! I'll only be applying to Scottish unis I think (dunno if I could justify an extra 9k a year just to go to a slightly better English uni), so probably Edinburgh, St Andrews, Glasgow and Strathclyde maybe. What other ones are you going apply to?

Ah right. You've got next year's summer to remind yourself some chemistry

That's really specifics! I thought you could just do normal physics and specialise later into that sort ? The reason why I chose chemical physics is that I don't know if I should do chemistry or physics and it lets me see both in first and second year
Oh yeah, you get to go for free, thts nice:biggrin: I am applying for Cambridge Bristol and Durham

Yeah with Chem physics you do all the compulsory courses for both physics and chemistry so you could switch to either at the start of 3rd year. That's the case at Edinburgh at least

Yeah that's why Edinburgh is a top choice for me

Haha that's true

Edinburgh are really flexible so you can start with Geophysics and then just change to Physics in 2nd or even 3rd year. I've looked at the Geophysics course content and it does all the physics modules plus 2 extra ones on the Earth in first year, so I wouldn't be missing anything physics-wise really.

That's a great idea! I'm incredibly indecisive so it's really hard choosing a degree to study. Just can't tell yet what I'd enjoy most and what would be best for job prospects :/ Ah well guess I could switch degrees to some extent.

Yeah  Ooooo Cambridge - hope your application goes well!

Have you ever been to Edinburgh btw?

Oh that's the same with chemical physics so I may as well transfer to straight physics in third year :dontknow:
That's the good thing about Scottish uni :yep:

Thanks

Yep, I've been there at the end of June this year. It's a lovely city, and I quite liked how the science campus is out of town in a quiet area - I can concentrate on studies during the day and go out to the city in the evening or something :awesome:

Coincidentally I'm thinking of Natural Sciences at Cambridge first, followed by Edinburgh and then Glasgow - most likely straight up Physics at the latter though I'd love to specialise in particle physics at some point following any of the above. Out of curiosity, what are you going for at Cambridge?
Congrats to everyone on their exam results by the way :congrats: !

NatSci at Cambridge as well :awesome:
I'm guessing you did Scottish qualification?
