Why do people use drugs ?

So many theories as to why people use drugs and almost all of them oh so negative but imo its rather simple people use drugs [on the whole] to simply feel good or to be more precise better. People don't stick a needle in their arm with an opiate or cocaine HCL simply because they can but to escape from something be it depression, abuse, stress etc. party drugs are much the same they make you 'happy' no?
Then again some people do it simply because they can, it makes them look 'cool' etc.
Personally I know my friends aunts cousin thrice removed's goldfish used Benzos for anxiety and sleep, Oxycontin due to depression and also sleep and Cocaine for depression albeit the fish didn't use the latter in the conventional way which is really not a route the fish has recommended anyone go down.

But one is curious what you all think on the matter as to why people use narcotics and any personal experience therein feel free to share
If people do choose to share their own experiences with drug use/addiction etc. there is to be no judging or foul comments directed to them or in any way about them though is this clear? any such comments will be removed and/or reported. This is to be a friendly discussion on a some might say controversial matter.

I think you'll find that there are times when life can be unsatisfactory... to put things mildly
Curiosity, escapism, and testing ones own ability to choose what others see as wrong.

This question could apply to cigarettes for kids.

Oh aye, there's got to be a reason behind the phrase 'life's a bitch'
I think it says a lot about you that you have to harmfully and artificially enhance your mood with drugs just because life is "unsatisfactory".

I remember I once tried a drug that was supposed to make you love everyone and feel really happy, instead I just hated everyone slightly less

I think it says a lot about you that you assume that I mean only controlled substances, mainly that you're fairly naive, fact of the matter is that everyone is on one sort of drug/chemical compound or another, be it legal or illegal, in our food, in tablet form or even in the air. Furthermore there is the issue of quantity, environment, and which drug you take. Taking a safe dosage in a controlled environment filled with people that will care for you should anything go wrong is perfectly fine, you can see this at pubs, bars, and clubs everywhere, if you're having a good time with friends and they've had a little too much to drink you look after them and take the proper method of action to make sure they're ok. If someone isn't on one thing they're on another, be it drug related or not, everyone has their own coping mechanisms to deal with getting through the day, from the office worker on coffee and rugby on weekends to the recovering army veteran on anti-depressants and pain killers.

I think that shows your ignorance you think every chemical on earth is harmful.
You also clearly have no concept of people who are depressed or the like either...
For fun and to cure boredom.

Obviously, not all chemicals are harmful to us, but when it comes to most recreational drugs, they are shown to be harmful in one way or another and are detrimental to a healthy person's health.

Depression can be helped with specialised drugs such as SSRIs and GABAergics in controlled doses that are managed by a doctor or psychiatrist. Self diagnosis and self medication causes a much higher risk in damaging your health, causing more problems, and not solving the root of the issue you were trying to cure.

We can't cure depression with one tablet. The only way to get out of it is to look for outside help. That being said, self medicating with depressants that just dampen your feelings is a short term solution

I feel i should point out those drugs take weeks if not months to work and arent especially effective anyway whilst if one night someone is feeling like they want to shoot themselves and a bag of coke will make them feel better even if it is short term who are you to judge?
Not to mention most narcotics arent 'dangerous' unless taken in ways theyre not supposed to be.
Also no medication will 'cure' depression unless for instance its a thyroid issue :L

Fundamentally, if they have found themselves in that position they have either ignored help from other people or just not gone out to seek it in the first place. I guess in that situation cocaine would literally save their life but I wasn't so much referring to that. I was referring to people who regularly smoke cannabis because of self diagnosed depression or just sadness.
because #yolo

Your comment says a lot about your ignorant and judgmental attitude towards other humans.

The act of regularly taking drugs because your life is unsatisfactory is an extreme method of resolving a fairly easy problem. There are less harmful ways of doing so. I don't know what you find ignorant about my comment.
Just to have the experience?
For fun the same way people drink alcohol

The thing that is ignorant about your attitude is that you're looking at the situation superficially and making judgments. You can't possibly know why somebody views their life as unsatisfactory and what a person is going through.

I think initially some people just do it just to try it and see what it's like then depending how that went, carry on to try get the same feeling. Personally I tried something once and the good side I guess was the alcohol I had as well and the come down was awful so Id never try it again or anything else
