That's how you draw switches in a circuit diagram. If the switch was closed (and drawn like that) it could just be a wire lol.

yeah but you could put the two dots and one line of the switch a little bit to the side touching the dot

Yeah I think that was just an exemplar diagram - don't read into it too much - any switch symbol could be used.

yeah but an open switch means that no current flows and a closed switch means that current CAN FLOW. so it does matter

What no it literally doesn't matter one bit - you're just drawing a circuit diagram.
