Find the rank of a matrix

Hi,
Please could someone help me out with the question in the attached document. Thanks!!
Post the question on here rather than giving a link.

Rank of a matrix=dim(row space)=dim(col space) so find a basis for the row rank or column rank (usually by Gaussian elimination) then you will have a basis for the row or column space, then simply identify how many vectors are in this basis. This number is the rank of the matrix. Keep in mind for an n*m matrix the rank<= min{n,m}.

Good luck.
