what are the uses and reactions of ETHANOLIC POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE? thanks :)

is ethanolic potassium hydroxide just KOH in ethanol?

what are its important reactions and uses?

thnku any help is appreciated

It is KOH dissolved into ethanol.

KOH will also dissolve into water, but if you were using it as a nucleophile attacking something which was insoluble in water, then it would affect its ability to act.

The ethanol interacts with the hydroxide ions making ethoxide ions which are a stronger base than hydroxide ions and can abstract protons more easily.

Typically used for elimination in haloalkanes ==> alkenes

The reagent may also be prepared by reacting sodium directly with ethanol.
