Question about Foundation Applications.

I recently contacted a guy at Durham Admissions asking whether a place would still be available for the Computer Science foundation year, and he said it would be unlikely that a place would become available but then informed me that if one did he would put my details through for an application,

now I know he's saying unlikely, but do a lot of students applying for foundation get accepted straight onto their courses or do many not do their foundation year?
