Hamming Codes - Can anyone help?

Hi all,
currently studying for a networks exam tomorrow, and my lecturers notes are terrible.
Say I was given this binary code: 0000 1111. If I was to create hamming bits for that, would I reverse the order of the original bits, making it look like this:

_ _ 1 _ 1 1 1 _ 0 0 0 0 ?

Some websites seem to think that you dont reverse them at all, making it like this:
_ _ 0 _ 0 0 0 _ 1 1 1 1

And some seem to think that the check bits are placed on the end, like this:

0 0 0 0 _ 1 1 1 _ 1 _ _

Argh! Which is right?? :frown:
