Legality of paying half rent over summer

Is it legal for the landlord to charge us half rent over the summer (July/August) and not allow us to move any of our things. We understand not being able to move in over summer properly, but some of us want to our stuff in, however the landlord won't allow this.

Is it legal for the landlord charge us half rent for ultimately no service..

You must read your contract. If you signed it without reading it initially, and the contract states that you will not be allowed access over the summer but that you would have to pay half rent, then you have only yourself to blame and there is nothing more that you can do. It's a tough lesson in life.

If you read the contract now and can legitimately make a case that you are legally being denied access then that's different

Yes, check the contract. It doesn't have to be legal; but if you sign technically you are in a bind and cannot do much outside of it unless you are willing to now be the culprit. It's unethical, probably illegal as well. :s-smilie:

But many people have found themselves in ****ty stipulations. You signed it so you can either be ready to fight some real estate war about landlords having more morals ORRR pay. OR back out if you can. Or don't pay and live on the edge and see what happens.
