I'm totally stoked I got into Bournemouth for Television Production. Just waiting on my Media results from collage now, have to get a B. Anyone else chosen it as their first choice? I'm in the Midlands so its a 5 hour or so drive/train journey for me.

I've applied for film production at Bournemouth for 2008, really hope i get in, i have loads of experience, hopefully that counts in the application.

1)First started with my Dad in SFX on Tomorrow never dies 97
2)Camera Crew - Batman Begins 2004, 1 week at cardington(gotham city set) and a few nights on the model unit
3)Camera and grip crew, Casino royale, 2 weeks on model unit, a few days on the 007 stage for the venice set and steadicam assistant on set.

Hopefully will get some more work experience on HP6 this summer at leavesden studios.

Do you think experience is more important than an great portfolio for the AIB?

wow sounds like you have loads of experience!

I think the experience is quite important as it shows your dedication to the media industry and shows your commited rather than just in love with the idea of working in film. However, a portfolio is also important as you need to show them what you can do/have done that demonstrates ur abilities and your interests.

To me, your experience sounds very impressive - good luck!

agree with purplerat. i would imagine that sort of experience will guarantee you at least an interview. because i got an interview with less experience than yourself so good luck. i got an offer for september!
Reply 88
I would be surprised if you didn't get in with that kind of experiance.

Hey purplerat, what grades are you hoping for when the results come out and are you confident?

Hey Amyea,

I need an A, B and C in certain subjects. I think I can get the A and the C but the subject i need a B in (music technology) i think I will only get a C in. I think I could get a B in art ( I only need a C) So if i get those grades then i would still have enough UCAS points - i hope they will let me in if I get the B and C the oher way round. Im quite confident I could get the grades in that order.

How about you?

What accomodation do you wanna applu for and where you from in the Midlands? Im in Surrey so its about a 2 hour drive for me.

I actually did an Access to Higher Education course for adults (I'm 23) and I also took AS Media alongside it to show Unis that I was serious about wanting to go into that field of work. So I am only waiting on my B for Media. I just need 25 out of a possible 90 marks because I did really well on the 1st exam and coursework!

I'm from Shropshire in the midlands, near Shrewsbury if you know it. So its quite a way to drive. I'm hoping to apply to Purbeck House, I think its in the town or narer the town, plus its modern and has en suite rooms. I got one of those DVD's did you? Thought they were a fantastic idea, and I really liked Purbeck the best. The living room/kitchen just looked really nice.

Have you decided which accommodation you want to apply for yet?

Cool, well done, so your almost guaranteed to get in then lol! Iv been to Shropshire (i think), so yeah quite a drive but Bournemouth is worth it! I want to apply to etiher Purbeck or the Student Village. I did get one of those DVDs and thought it was a great idea and just made me want to get in even more.

Iv met quite a few people who are potentially starting the course in Sept so itll be good to finally meet everyone!

Cool do you mean you've met them online or for real? I'm looking forward to freshers week if I get in, just a chance to get to know the place a bit before the work starts! Anyone else know what happens freshers week? Is there stuff at the Uni going on?
Reply 93
Nah, only online through TSR. I think freshers week is lots of activities and stuff to get us into uni life.

When's registration day for this course? I'm going to have to book the day off work and I was hoping to know a bit in advance. Do you know if it's one specific day or is it different for everyone? Also does much happen on registration day?

Being a pain but when I applied to Bournemouth and got an offer they sent me a postcard with a website on it and on this website was loads of stuff about the Television Production course including an example of what the weekly timetable would be like. Well I've used the Bournemouth Uni website and I think it has a link to this other website but I still can't find the timetable. All I could remember was Wednesday afternoons were free, but does anyone know what the rest was or have the link? I also think Mondays/Tuesday are lecture days. Any help much appreciated!
