Keele En Suite

I've applied for accommodation on the Keele website but I still haven't got a reply and I can't seem to log back in. So I'm wondering if I can get some opinions from previous/current students currently living in the en suites Keele offers. Is it worth the money? any problems? let me know! thanks!

Hi, i lived in an en-suite room on campus this year and definitely thought that it was worth the money in my opinion... I lived in Lindsay Court and had a small 3/4 sized bed and shared the kitchen with seven people. I would definitely recommend an en-suite if you want more privacy and your own bathroom rather than just a wash basin. Lindsay Court was also good as you only share kitchens with a small group of people whereas in other accommodation you can be sharing with up to thirty people, I believe. However, I know some people find that it is easy to socialise when you're sharing with so many people and aren't just isolated into a small group.
In regards to when you will find out which accommodation you have received, you should receive an email on results day if you get the grades (I received mine before i'd even been into Sixth Form to collect my grades). Hope i've helped a bit!

I would also recommend the premier en suite rooms  I lived in Lindsay court this year and in September I'll be in Holly Cross which is also a premier en suite room.

The rooms are a good size with a small double bed, good size bathroom and plenty of storage. The kitchens also have tables and benches.

How did you find first year when you first settled in, I'm starting uni this year at keele and i am very nervous especially due to the fact that i'm muslim so I don't drink, but heard freshers people tend to get really drunk and have drinking parties in flats.

hi  congrats you'll love it at keele!

In my first year it took me a while to settle in because it was my first time living away from my family but I made a lot of friends (my neighbours, from my course, from societies, etc) and eventually I came to really enjoy living in halls

I don't drink and a lot of my friends don't either and I can tell you you'll definitely make friends with people who also don't drink whom you can hang out with and have non alcohol parties. In my first year my flatmates and I had a lot of pizza parties and movie nights  The friends that I had who do drink never once tried to pressure me into going to an alcoholic event and completely respected the fact that I don't drink. I never felt like I was weird or missing out on anything and we still had a ton of fun on nights where they weren't attending an event at the SU.

Students do have pre drinks and parties with alcohol in flats sometimes but it's not as often as you might think and if you feel nervous then you can stay inside your room until it's calmed down again.

I would also definitely recommend joining the ISOC (islamic society) when you come to Keele you'll meet many people who are also muslim and they organise fun non alcoholic events throughout the year such as a trip to a restaurant in Manchester, bowling, pizza parties, movie nights, dinners, etc. There's also weekly sisters circles where tea and biscuits is served and everyone gets to know each other or football for the guys (sorry don't know if you're a guy or girl).

Hope this helped! If you have nay more questions don't hesitate to ask

Hi,

My name is Jodie I work in the Student Services Centre at Keele. Most students are nervous before going to university - I know I was! At Keele we have some events and services in place to help you settle into university life. Here are a few:

1. You can apply for a Keele Mentor by emailing [email protected]. Keele Mentors are current Undergraduate students whose aim it is to welcome and settle new students to the University. We try to match you with someone who is doing the same or a similar course to you and you can ask them questions about university life.

2. You could come along to a pre-arrival event. Keele4All will be running on 17th September and offers all Keele students a chance to meet and make friends before their degrees start. The sign up will be live in August.

3. We have a very full Keele Welcome programme and everyday we have at least one event which is alcohol free. Most other events are in the day or don't promote drinking so there are lots of events which will not focus on alcohol. We are just finalising the welcome guide but why not have a look at last years events here. Also check out our Storify here.

4. Join the Keele University Non-drinkers Facebook group for information on events.

5. If you have any worries don't hesitate to get in touch with us you can email any questions to [email protected] or use our Ask Jodie service.

I hope this helps!
