Rubbish Teacher! HELP!

Ok , dunno if there is anova thread 4 this but i haven't got time 2 lk cos i am panickin.

Well, i chose histry at the end of yr 9 4 gcse wiv (based on my histry ks3 lvl) predicted A/A* grade. We got this teacher who started new in yr 10, she was ok at first but as time went on r class bcam further and further behind - i got a high B in end of yr 10 assess which I was pleased wiv compared 2 rest of r class. I hav As and A*s in coursework. I do edexcel schools history project: american west and medicine thru time as the courses. Basically i just want 2 kno how 2 write a gcse histry ansa 4 this course that will get me a gud grade cos i haven't had mock bac but kno it was bad and i really want 2 do well in summer.

Just 2 clarify, i wud appreci8 if ppl cud giv me tips on how 2 pick up mrks on the 15 mrk questions at end which generally hav 3 main pts 2 talk bout. How cn u xpand 3 pts 2 15 mrks.

Example: Was gettin rich quick the only reason people moved West? 15 mrks

Obviously ansa is no and u cn talk bout mormons but who else cn u talk bout and how cn u xpand it 2 15 mrks?

is it 2 l8 2 sort my histry out?
Thanks
Laura

Hi! I'm still in year 9 so i can't help you much with answers to exam questions, but i will say this: lots of the time senior staff will hear of a poor teacher and watch said teacher pretty closely. My brother had a rather bad teacher recently teaching him science in year 11 - she didn't last long

Also, if your parents know just how bad the teaching is, they may be inclined to write an angry letter, or mention it next time they see a member of the senior staff. And you never know, other parents might share these views
It's definitely not too late to sort your history out, and there's not that much to be sorted out really; A*s and As in coursework and a high B in the Year 10 mock are really good results. I can't give you any specific advice because I did a different exam board and topics, but if the question is worth 15 marks and you're expected to make 3 points, that's 5 marks per point. To me, that suggests that you need to expand on your answer and perhaps include a little bit of analysis as well. For example, if one of your 3 points was that people moved West to get rich, your answer for that point could be something like: One of the main reasons for people moving West was to increse their wealth. During this period in history, the West enjoyed much greater economic prosperity than the East. There were more jobs available and higher salaries. Despite the population increase caused by large numbers of people migrating West, the economy remained stable. The move from East to West for economic reasons was to continue for several years. 5 sentences, 5 marks. I completely made that up, but hopefully it will give you an idea of what I mean.

I did the same topics for GCSE as you. To start off with, you're doing well

If you got a question like "Did people move West just to get rich quickly?", I'd probably, do a couple of points for, with evidence if you can, and then a couple of points against, with a small intro and conclusion.

However, I know what you mean about poor History teaching. In AS, we had 2 amazing teachers, and then both left. We now have 2 appalling teachers, 1 of them especially, you ask him a question and he doesn't know! We've been to the head of the faculty, and he said that he'd observe them, and speak to them, but it's now January (we complained in about November) and nothing has been done, and I need an A in it for uni.

Anyway, I still have my GCSE stuff for History - PM me if you need any help specifically or want to read some A* essays, I still have mine
our teacher always goes on about rembering to include on the otherhand or you cant get more than half marks were told to just stick to say 3 points for the statement and 2/3 against.

I know how having a crap teacher feels we had a student teacher at the begining of this year just try and read the topics covered in class whn you get home and if
necessary make your own notes.

I think we all do.

Let me just just the most productive thing I've done in English this week is have a rebel game of Chinese Whispers at the back of the class.

you ask him a question and he doesn't know

LOL, I guess teachers can't bring out the old 'you find out at A level' excuse I hear so often.

That sounds good  If you like I'll have a rummage through what I have later. You still have 6 months, and so once you're set on your way, you should be fine,

I know, the problem is, my 2 excellent ones just left, and the 2 which we got replaced with, well one's a bit better but specialises in Geography and Sociology, and then there is this awful one who has never taught A Level and just makes us do groupwork and games every lesson. When I said to him about it today (after he tried to make us "learn" today's info by being TV presenters), he said that obviously his teaching methods did not suit me, but if he just gave sheets it would just be boring. He's just so terrible that he couldn't physically teach us, he only just knows more than us. The worst thing is, if I don't get an A in History, I am not going to university :frown: :frown: :frown:
