Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamSame. If you run games in windowed mode it doesn't happen (at least for me) and of course you can just quit the client before playing (although I got so fed up with remembering to do that I uninstalled too)(Original post by Cortez)
It kept making my games crash to desktop so I stopped.
If they bring out a new version that lets them both run without problems then let me know

Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamI started quitting before playing a game and then always forgot to turn it back on again. Then when I restarted my comp it would load up again but without the icon in the taskbar and I couldn't be bothered going to task manager to quit it all the time :/(Original post by Tom)

Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamWhat do you mean by it breaks your computer?(Original post by Sephrenia)
Taken from my system properties..not exactly sure what Im quoting to you here...
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.4GHz
3.39GHz, 1GB RAM
Running Window XP Service pack 2
Could you download this http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...e_20060420.cab
and then run it.
If it crashes, then you can pretty much forget about running folding@home im afraid.
edit: remember to extract the files using winrar first. Also pick the last test option called "stress CPU"Last edited by Jaffaholic; 28-01-2007 at 18:15. -
Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamWell I tried to run a programme and my entire pc crashed...which F@H was running...I think it was word(Original post by ghost101)

Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamI know..my pc has a habit of deleting random system files...but i dont want to risk it..as F@H was new and everything got wiped I dont want to risk it again...Twas fun enough reinstalling last time..dont want that again thanks(Original post by ghost101)
Pretty dramatic, but you give the program too much credit. It cant delete system files.
The download link i gave is basically folding@home on a continuous loop. It is used to test the stability of PCs. If it crashes while the program is running, its a sign of an inherent problem. But nvm. If it crashes your pc, theres no point trying.

Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamYeah but if you read those papers the use they have put the software to is nothing like as dramatic as what they claim it's being used for.(Original post by Tom)
Well this page (http://folding.stanford.edu/papers.html) claims that the data provided so far has been of some scientific use, at least as far as advancing research is concerned.

I'm aware that the program doesn't work on a completely random basis but then this is more than compensated for by the fact that it doesn't work at one comformation per 1x10^-13 seconds.Last edited by Nefarious; 28-01-2007 at 22:47. -
Re: Join The TSR Folding TeamNope it still doesn't address Levinthal's paradox, not by a long shot.(Original post by ghost101)
Hope this helps. I dont completely understand, what is being done. But from what i understand is that they are developing a program which correctly folds for a simple protein and then applying that to something more complicated in the hope it will churn out something useful more quickly. Very similar to how CPDN works.

Re: Join The TSR Folding@Home Team
I'm in! I might try and get a friend to join (he's got a new quad-core dell precision which would really help the team)... I'm running a p4 2.8 which won't be great but it'll do. Can one user use more than one machine (i.e. a small cluster)? I have a laptop as well which I could use.
I'm joining now
