Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadThanks (sent by PM) will upload it to the front of the thread(Original post by IntrinsicLouis)
Block: Old Rootes D, Ground Floor
Summary:
So far, excellent. For the first couple of weeks we were the biggest party corridor, but now that we're all into our courses we're just very close. That's not to say we don' go out still! Unusually for this kind of set up, we share food and cook for eachother on a regular basis. This isn't isolated either - the kitchen upstairs is very intimate and they have their own TV (with licence). People in Rootes seem to get on really well because we most of us got placed here as a 3rd or 4th choice, we're all out to have fun and make the best of it. The facilities aren't great, but for the price they are great value. I was seriously upset when I got my accomodation offer, but now I'm here I can't imagine being anywhere else.
Pros:
- Big rooms
They may not be the biggest, but they're plenty big enough. Especially if you keep them tidy
- Communal Atmosphere
In 2 weeks, my corridor has become my surrogate family. Remember that you don't have to like everyone in your family, but they are there for you.
- Location
Perfect. Everything I need is close by, particularly the SU and Arts Centre.
- Price
Helluva better deal than many of the halls. Am paying £83 a week for basically the same as JM, but with better rooms.
- Bathrooms
We have one of the bigger floors, with 16 sharing 3 toilets, 2 showers, and 2 baths with showers over them. It's actually plenty! I haven't had to wait for anything so far.
- Narrow Corridors
They may seem prison-like during the day, but believe me, when you're pissed later on they make it much easier to get back to your room.
- Surrounding Area
Amazing if you're a skater of some kind.
Cons:
- Kitchen.
I can't say much more on this. As someone who loved to cook before coming here, I really do hate the kitchen. (Tiny, poorly designed, really hard to keep clean.)
- Noise.
Yes it's there. I can generally hear the bass coming out of the SU until about 3am. It's just a question of dealing with it. I'm actually finding my nights here quieter than they were at home. Sure there are sometimes people partying, shouting, having fun - but I propose three easy solutions to this. One: earplugs. Two: join in. Three - ask nicely for quiet.
- Fire Alarms
So far this has proved to be something of a myth... we only had 3 in 6 weeks! And they were over the course of 2 days. However, the potential is worryingly there... ¬_¬
- Mobile Reception
This is without a doubt THE MOST ANNOYING thing. According to a physics student friend, the building is a Faraday Cage, making it very difficult to find spots with reception. They are there though. Eg, the kitchen has none at all, but my bedroom does.
- Building Works
Now that they've moved around the front of the building too, I am finding them rather annoying, especially while trying to sleep during the day. Earplugs.
Anyone else who is prepared to write a summary/submit photos you obviously get the +rep, etc.
See this post for more info.

Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadThread updated

While on Orientation in September I managed to get a couple of snaps of the room I was staying in. As usual all the contributions that people make on here will be sent to the front page of this thread

Re: The Warwick Accommodation Thread
Oh they look a lot nicer lived in. And if you think that's basic I will provide a link to the Post Photos Of Your Hall Room thread when I finally take photos and upload them of the room I have in collegio here in Italy this year......honestly, makes Westwood look like a palace.

Re: The Warwick Accommodation Thread12 hours later the kitchen was a mess. It's amazing that they cleared it up (along with a few hundred rooms in Rootes with corresponding toilets and kitchens) between Friday 9am until Saturday 9am.(Original post by georgia)
So THAT'S what they look like unlived in! Haha it's totally different to how my friends rooms looked.
Photographic opportunities like that are rare

Building: AV1
Pros:
*Good Location: Very close to the gym, SU (Piazza), and to the whole campus really. Tesco isn't too far away either.
*En-suite: Bathtubs
*Multiple kitchens on each floor: Makes for a lower ratio in each kitchen while still having large amounts of people to socialise with
*Common rooms: Amazing for kitchen parties, and just to generally hang out in.
*Launderette: In the actual building. Convenient.
Cons:
*Have to move your stuff during X-mas and Easter... Annoying
*Price: Fairly expensive, but great if you can afford it
*Internet speeds during peak hours
*Kitchens are not as nice as the ones in JM. Everything else is world-class when it comes to student accomm, but the kitchens could be more up-to-date
*Feels like a hotel -

Could you do a couple of sentences on a summary of AV
?

Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadI used to just send my resident tutor an email whenever I needed the trunk room unlocked. If you can't get hold of them, try the warden or the cleaners if they're around.(Original post by tadimon)
hey does anyone know who has the keys to the trunk room? i live in international house and my bags are now stuck inside a dark, locked room -.- -
Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadYou pretty much described my corridor in cryfield, there is always someone to go out with but there are people there who get down with their work too.(Original post by JSwwfc)
Don't know whether this thread is still going on but basically...
I'm going to Warwick next year confirmed (I'm on my gap year now), and what is the best place for someone like me who is 'moderate'?
I like a mix of things - I'm not the sort of person who will, or wants to go out every night, but equally I won't lock myself in my room and sit in the corner. I don't really want a crazy loud atmosphere, but I don't want a really quiet, pin drop one either.
So, is there a hall with a good mix of different people? I reckon that's where I'd fit in best. -
Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadBruv, sorry we couldn't have a pint before going away for holidays. I literally had 3 of the most annoying assignments ever for that last week(Original post by Dnator)

Re: The Warwick Accommodation Thread
Anybody knows if there is a large enough place to store my stuff during Easter in Arthur Vick? I was sharing in Westwood (yes, some of us had to wait till now!! Those ****ers
) and got offered a room in Arthur Vick yesterday. I am an international student so taking my stuff back home would be less economical than throwing them away and buing new ones when I get back (exccess luggage tarriffs are outrageous).
I asked the Accom. Office and they said there would be some locked cupboard space and a trunk room. I know the cupboard space is probably tiny, but what about the trunk room. Is it big enough to store my printer, clothes I won't take, cutlery, rice cooker, a few massive books, etc. (around 2 fairly sized suitcases and a small box or 2) ?
Speaking of 30-week-let halls, do they actually rent the rooms while we are away? Cuz it seems utterly pointless just to kick people out like that, which brings me to wonder who would want to live on Warwick campus during Easter/Christmas? -

Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadYeah - I live in Cryfield and that's used for people who have 30-week lets but want to stay on campus for a bit of either of the two holidays.(Original post by mahfood1990)

Other blocks are used for conferences and things, I think. -
Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadWhy not just ask the person you were sharing with in Westwood if they'll let you leave your stuff in their room over christmas?(Original post by mahfood1990)

Re: The Warwick Accommodation ThreadHe also transferred to AV, the room is being offered to someone else.(Original post by matt2k8)
Why not just ask the person you were sharing with in Westwood if they'll let you leave your stuff in their room over christmas?
I have a friend living in Lakeside and a few others off-campus, they'll probably not mind if I ran out of space to store stuff.
