I'm unsure ony how exactly they allocate it, but I do know that there is a larger number of 12 person and 9 person flats in Tocil as oppose to the smaller 6 person flats (which, I THINK, are quite often reserved as single-sex areas in some of the blocks). But you may as well give it a try as you have nothing to lose! I would suggest just making sure that what you put in your description is a good description of your personality really to give you the best chances of being put with like-minded people (:
Okay, thank you so much for all your help!

    Re: The Warwick Accommodation Thread
Hi... I am a postgraduate at the Warwick Business School for the year 2011/12. I am going to apply for the on campus accommodations and needed some guidance.

As I was going through the rents for the postgraduate halls of residences, i could see that Tocil was the cheapest. So could anyone tell me how is this accommodation overall. Is it good enough. And wat about the bathroom being shared between 4 people? Is it a problem ??/

Also, as i was going through the campus map file in the website, i could see that Tocil is actually not the closest accommodation to the warwick business school. Lakeside and Heronbank were the closest... But then again, they are quite expensive. Don't think i can afford them. So could anyone tell me how much time it takes to reach the wbs campus from the Tocil residence on foot ????

Also, please help me understand the let period of the accommodations... I see that Tocil has a 39 week let period. So, when does that mean i have to let go of the campus and wont be allowed to stay ????

Tocil is certainly the cheapest PG let by nearly £2000 from Claycroft.

Cosmo_aus_Muenchen did a review of Tocil. You can view it at the start of this thread (It's in Post #4, Where Should I Apply>>Halls>>Tocil). If you have any questions after reading the review, or the entire guide if you wish, feel free to ask about it.

It's about 5 minutes from 'WBS Social Sciences' and perhaps 7 to cross the road to the 'Teaching Centre' in Radcliffe House (you can shortcut through a few places). For Heronbank I'd say it's about 4-5 minutes from the Teaching Centre, another 2 minutes to WBS Social Sciences. For Lakeside add another 2-3 minutes. As a Postgrad, I'd expect you will expect you will spend more time in the Teaching Centre, but I can't be 100% sure. However Tocil has good benefits because it is nearer main campus, including to facilities like the main shopping centre in Cannon Park (cell H3 on this map), meaning you have to walk less to carry back your shopping. Also Claycroft is even better placed for this. Tocil is probably the best located halls on campus for the majority of students.

Tocil having 39 week let means that you can live in the halls continuously from the Saturday before the start of term (Saturday 1st October 2011) to the Saturday after term ends (Sunday 30th June 2012). A 50 week let goes from 1st Oct to mid September.

I have a very similar question to salman, I am under the impression that the undergraduate Accounting & Finance course will be taught at the Warwick Business School Building (64 on the map)?

If so, can I ask how long it would take to walk to there from Cryfield (15 on map)? Cryfield does seem like, purely from looking at the map, quite far from the "thick of things". Is this the case, or will it still be easy to access most places?

Which other accommodation can be considered close to the Business School?

    Thanks for your time

Looking at a typical first year/first term timetable for your course, most lectures will be in the Ramphal building. You will also have seminars in Humanities and/or Social sciences. I would allow about 5-7 minutes to walk to any of these places.

Compared to other halls, Cryfield is not far out at all. If you want to be really 'in the thick of things' then consider somewhere like Rootes. .

Heronbank is fairly close to the WBS buildings, although you may find that you spend much of your time elsewhere. Since it doesn't take long to walk across campus then it may be worth considering halls a little further out if they're stronger in other areas.

The business school for under graduates has locations all over the place so there is no way to predict where you will end up till your time table tells you. A lot of the lectures are often in the Ramphal building with seminars either there or in the social sciences buildings, in which case lakeside and heron bank would be the nearest. However you may also get lectures in other buildings, I did management but some of my modules were with accounting and finance students and we also had lectures and seminars in the humanities building and in the maths building. So it can be hard to predict where you will end up. Nowhere on campus is to far from things though and you can get most places within a 10 minute walk at most from anywhere id have said , the only exception being westwood and liberty park locations as they are technically off campus (at least i think west wood is still classed as off campus)

If you walk fairly quickly, you can get from Westwood to central campus in 10 minutes. I would consider Westwood to be on campus. Liberty Park is a bus ride away and definitely off campus.

yep liberty park is wayyyy off campus but still a great place to live as i was there for two years and if you like being in the hustle and buslte of a city while still in halls rather than on campus often described as being 'a bubble' its perfect I think westwood has that handy little shuttle bus for people as well at certain times which must speed things up to

Yeah I know people sometimes used that shuttle bus to get back in the evenings. I'm not sure if it really sped things up that much though as it goes back to Westwood the long way round, via Lakeside etc. I've never used it myself though so I can't be sure.

    Hello there
I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm trying to plan my journey to an open day on the 27th. I was wondering if you could tell me how long it will take me to get from Coventry Rail station to the Campus? I understand it will be around 15 minutes via taxi, is it considerably longer via bus?

My train is expected to arrive at 13:24, do I have sufficient time to get there if the event starts at 14:00? For example, if was to get the Number 12 (am I able to take that from the railway station), at 13:31, am I likely to get to the university in half an hour?

    Thanks for your time.

Have a look at the 12 timetable on http://nxbus.co.uk/routes/coventry/C...vice_timetable if you haven't seen it already.

The next term-time bus from the station is at 13:36. This arrives at the university bang on 2pm. Although lectures and open day talks usually start at 5 past each hour, this won't give you enough time to find the building if you're unfamiliar with the university. I think you're better off getting a taxi.

If you do decide to cut it fine and get a bus, the 12 bus stop is located on the road bridge over the railway line. You'll have to come out the station building to get to it and walk up some steps.

I did that journey every day for two years as that was the nearest bus stop to where i lived ahh memories! Taxi is a lot more direct as the bus does weave but considering at that time of the day it shouldnt be rush hour so less cars on the road and less people getting on and off the bus it should take more like 25 maybe even slightly quicker......but that does all depend on the bus being on time and there have been many times ive known busses be late or not show up at all, plus it wont leave you much time to find where you need to go on campus once you get off the bus.... if you do decide to get a taxi it should cost you around £8-9

Hello! I wanted advice about the accomodations from people that are actually on campus.
I put warwick as firm yesterday for literature and film studies so i've been looking around on the site- First, is not being in an en-suite terrible? Which accomodations are en-suite and what are your experiences?
Second, I heard the film studies place is far from the student union so if i live at Westwood i'd be close to the place where i study but far from the center- is that really bad or is it not that far? Thanks for your help and advice.

Westwood is about 10-12 mins from central campus and right next to the film studies place.

Check out the guide at the start of the thread for stuff on what's en-suite and what isn't, along with reviews and photos of the halls of residence.

Westwood is probably most ideally located to you - most of the Film Studies lectures take place in A1.28 in Milburn House. It's likely you will be heading there for lectures more often than heading out, and if you are at Westwood you will find a way to go out as a group - will be fine. :yy:

Cool, thanks to both of you.
The only thing with Westwood is that it's corridors and 18 to 26!!! people per kitchen which is madness. So if i apply to say, Arthur Vick (9-14 people per kitchen), Jack Martin (11-13) and Tocil (6-12) which are also closer to the center, would i be that far from where i study, like would i be the only one with lit/film study course there since all the other would chose Westwood to be closer to Milburn House?

Also, any idea where Bluebell is/will be located?

    Thanks a lot!!

There's about 50 students enrolled each year onto the course - that would mean it is unlikely to have more than a handful in each hall. It may perhaps depend if other people on the course have the same idea of living near where their lectures are, but I'd say people will be spread out because there are other factors other than location (no doubt you should consider all factors, rather than where your lectures are). In terms of distance it would be about 12 minutes walk to Tocil, a bit further for JM/AV/Rootes - Rootes and Cryfield may be approaching 17-20 minutes in you are on the far side. It's the same issue of going for Westwood when your lectures are in main campus.

Bluebell is located below Rootes - in the 'Construction Work until Summer 2011' yellow box http://i40.tinypic.com/357lqq8.jpg. Some photos of Bluebell at the start of the thread as well

I lived in Westwood and it was great having so many people to a kitchen as you got to meet loads of new people. The kitchens are much larger to account for this but it did get very messy very quickly after the cleaner came. The advantage of the corridors system is that some people were able to easily get to know people on other floors without being locked out. However food did sometimes get stolen.
