Hi! I received an offer from Warwick for law yesterday and have been looking at the accommadation. I really want an ensuite room and my parents are saying that I 'must' have a 39 week room as they do not want to bring my stuff back at the end of every term. So that leaves me with Lakeside and Bluebell. I am really worried about comments that there are a lot of international students in these places and fear that I could become 'shut off' from people. Is this what happens?! As I read that they aren't the most sociable halls.

Im not the type of person who wants to go clubbing every night but I also don't want to just sit in my room and be boring and have no friends! Haha

So can anyone give me any thoughts on this?
There really isn't anything wrong with sharing a bathroom. And secondly people in Lakeside and Bluebell do have friends.

So does anyone have a list of where they're planning to apply yet? Here it's looking like:

    1) Jack Martin
    2) Westwood
    3) Cryfield
    4) Tocil
    5) Lakeside
    6) Whitefields

Depending on how much you have, you might be able to manage with a 30 week room, and store stuff in the cupboard provided-I'm in Arthur Vick and I've managed to come home by train for Christmas and Easter.

hey guys , i am starting my first year in warwick in 2012 (: cant seem to decide on which is the most suitable accommodation hall for me . There are 3 choices which are currently on my mind right now and they are Tocil, Rootes and Lakeside.
    1. may i know is it problematic to share a common toilet or bathroom ?
    2. are all the first year undergrad group together in Tocil?
    3. which hall would you recommend to a sociable international student?
    Thank you very much !!!

    1. no, unless you have serious OCD. i like cleanliness, and i never had a problem sharing. if you cant cope seeing a couple of hairs in the bath now and then, you might have a problem

    2. not all first year undergrads are together, because there are several blocks, but you wont be sharing with third years or post grads

    3. the social life is what you make of it. id probably advise against lakeside though, tocil and rootes would be fine

    I'm thinking:

    1. Rootes
    2. Tocil
    3. Whitefields
    4. JM
    5. AV

Location is an important factor for me as is having a good time! Not sure whether to put Tocil before Whitefields or not though? Whitefields is described as a bit of a dump and I'd have to move all my stuff out at Christmas, but Tocil is flats and I'd be worried about getting unsociable room mates! Anyone have any opinions on this?

If the rules from the last 3 years or so are to go by, you can only choose one 30 week let (JM, AV, Benefactors). Not that you are likely to get it if it's down in 4/5th preference.

Rootes is fun. Tocil is pretty cool as well. Whitefields: bleh - it's cheap and you get what you pay for. But yeah you can get a bit stuck if you are in a bad flat. But socs/sports clubs can cover you if that happens.

Check out the guide at the front for further direction if you haven't already.

I've read the guide quite a few times and still can't decide! Ahh I don't want to go to an ensuite anyway, I can't afford it, I may just put down 4 choices then. I just want Rootes really

^ In past years you have needed to make 5 or 6 choices :p:

Last year they opened in May or something.

It isn't first come first served - as long as you submit the application before the 31st July cut off, you will be fine.

If I'm not mistaken, Tocil will only be for finalists / PGs this year..

According to here everybody gets a share :yep:

Tocil is actually a very good accommodation block. It's well situated and has a nice feel about it. However, you are in your own flats, so it's difficult to socialise with other kitchens due to the big door blocking your way in. If I could make the decision again, Tocil would be up there for me :yep:

Odd. I remember the wardens / Ben saying that it's for PG next year. Maybe they changed their mind. Or the website isn't updated (on the bottom of the page it was last modified in April 2011)!

Ah that's very true. The description does say for 11/12 entry as well. You may well be right then! My apologies :hat2:

It's a shame to lose that option though for first years - it's a great block!

I think you might be right actually in that first years don't get the choice of Tocil this year. It's definitely open to final years as well as PGs though.

Hurst is going to be knocked down over 2012-13 but might be used as overflow at the start of term it seems.

Looks like the freshers places in Tocil are being given to finalists.

Weren't whitefields meant to be being knocked down last year until they had to be used for emergency accom? Is that not going ahead now??
