Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationWestwood's obviously a lot bigger, the halls are large buildings whereas Whitefields are like small houses. Whitefields have a small communal kitchen and a larger lounge area.(Original post by Lifeisnice)
How does Westwood compare to Whitefields? I've been inside Whitefields, and it seems decent, although the corridors smell kind of strange, like they need some ventilation. How's Westwood like?
Westwood have communal kitchen which were a bit cramped when I went there but no more so than somewhere like rootes.
The rooms in Westwood were slightly bigger iirc but not by much.
Obviously Whitefields are very much on campus, at times probably uncomfortably close to the Union! but also very convienient from that perspective, you could easily reach many of the lecture halls on campus as well as the union and other accomodations in 5 minutes from Whitefields. Westwood is a bit more far out.
I would say go choose between them based on whether you think youd prefer a small flat of close-knit friends with very convienient location or a larger halls on the very outskirts of campus(but Westwood blocks do develop a similar community feel =) )
Tho if you feel you would prefer a larger block then IMHO Rootes would be a better bet, just based on convienience and party fever =)
Hope this helps any.. -
Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationClaycroft is on the edge of campus but the convienient edge, very close to the sports centre, Tesco (for shopping) and the Maths block.(Original post by jylim3)
Hi can anyone tell me how is claycroft accommodation like? I know that the ratio of bathroom to student is 1:2... so where is the bathroom located exactly?
thanks.
The rooms are really nice and the accommodation is generally high quality.
The bathrooms are shared between two rooms so you have a outer door leading to a tiny lobby from which the bathroom and 2 rooms lead off.
The kitchen is for a whole corridor. It is quite a quite place to live and you may have to make an effort to find other people to be friends and go out with.
Hope this helps any -
Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodation
Argh I'm certain about Rootes as my number one but after that its all rather tricky =/ Money isn't as much an issue as being somewhere that is buzzing. Westwood seems to be very Rootes esque...I prefer halls with corridors to houses/flats but is it better to go with the places nearer to central campus even though i'm not crazy about the set up? (Whitefields/Tocil) Everyone has been recommending Rootes as being the party place but where are the other places to be? (or in this case live xD)

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationTbh there are some fun whitefields flats and westwoods halls that will be the nearest thing but make sure you specify the 'buzzing' atmosphere you want on your acc. application form thing!(Original post by jim_is_alive702)

That will majorly boost your chances of being somewhere you like if you try and explain what you want in an accommodation =) -
Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationCryfield, Westwood.(Original post by sil3nt_cha0s)
PLEASE can someone give me advice on two places to apply for accommodation?
They have to NOT be en suite and in a quiet surrounding but not TOO quiet, so nothing like Rootes where I'm told people set fire alarms off and be ****s like that lol
Again remember to specify what you want on the form so they can match you up with people with similar accommodation desires -
Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationThanks(Original post by Chrrye)
Cryfield, Westwood.

Can I ask, briefly, why you think those are good places?
Btw, are they relatively expensive places to live? I have to pay myself you see

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationNonsuite, nice big halls but without/less of the lairyness of Rootes you said you wanted to avoid.(Original post by sil3nt_cha0s)
Thanks

I think they are both quite cheap, check this out for yourself tho.

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationhah yes, absolutely. I am not some random giving out completely false info to screw up freshers' lives ..(Original post by sil3nt_cha0s)
Yeah cheap is good
Btw, do you go to Warwick uni atm?
That would be pretty funny tho.
Maybe I will do that on a different uni forum

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationThat would make you a legend in my eyes(Original post by Chrrye)

I was wondering how the area outside the rooms, the common lounge and corridors are though. Are they stuffy like Whitefields?

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationthe corridors were bigger. the kitchen was cramped when I visited. I dont know if there are communal lounges in Westwood blocks. They do have their own cafe and mini costcutter and near the tennis courts & athletic track if you are into those sports =)(Original post by Lifeisnice)
Ahhh...
Thanks.

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationHmm... The corridors in Westwood have windows right? As in, I'm just curious as to whether its as 'cooped' up as Whitefields; there are no windows in Whitefields other than the rooms, so the air can get kind of stale in the corridors.(Original post by Chrrye)

Re: The Student Guide to on-campus accomodationlol, I think you should just rule Whitefields out based on your own experience of its ventilation and move on !(Original post by Lifeisnice)

It is a bit clautrophobic in there..
I cant remember if there are westwood corridor windows..
Just as a general architectural point: Windows are rare in corridors as the corridors tend to run down the centre of the buildings to maximise room space either side of them (these rooms/kitchens have the windows).
Can I ask, briefly, why you think those are good places?
