Age of employment

I've read a lot of places that you need to be 16 to get a job but I don't know whether it is an age thing or just when you get your national insurance number (which can be a few months before you're 16).

So my question is; I have got my national insurance number but am still 15. Would I be able to apply for jobs? or do you have to have your national insurance number AND be 16?

Different places have different policies.
Theres no harm in applying now though.
