Yes, but barristers are better advocates. You didn't get a word of what I was implying. A person who is advocating all the time will be much more confident at arguing than one who isn't. PLUS! Solicitors are also advocates who defend their clients in court. Isn't that the role of a lawyer? :P - Proved my point! I', smarter lol!
What the hell? It's all relative. Are you somehow suggesting that US advocates are somehow "worse"... I'll tell you now, there would still be specialist advocates effectively filling the role of barristers just without the profession being technically distinct.

Go on the website of chambers in London in the field you want to work in and look at the barristers they have it will give you an idea of what they generally look for, some are detailed and will give the degree, classification and university etc.

... Remembering that the vast majority of these will have studied for their LLB degrees many moons ago...

yeh the older barristers will invariably be Oxbridge, its good to look at those Called 2000 onwards, these ones graduated within that last 10yrs most of them and there is a growing trend away from oxbridge, don't get me wrong oxbridge is still there but uve getting a few trailblazers coming in.
My sister was just telling me how her friend who graduated from UCE Bham with a 2.1 is working as a barrister in London...so anything is possible.

They have one from York who is not coloured, he may-be has left now.

Coloured?

They still use that term in the twenty-first century?

Jeez...

Of course it's possible.

What many people on here need to understand is that TSR is FULL of competitive young students. A lot of BS is spoken on issues, and often, it is merely to spite others.

There is not firms of barristers but if you fail to get a pupillage, you can use the BVC qualification to sometimes get quite good jobs working for firms.

Edit please...otherwise i'll assume that the others from York are colourless and transparent?!-Yes i'm being facetious but the word coloured is a joke!

its better than some terms.

and yeh if you look at older bigger chamber like 3 paper or crown office then you'll find pure oxon/cantab before ure eyes, but some of the more niche ones and not 100yr old ones then you'll find more non oxbridge folk.

its better than some terms.

It's better than some acceptable terms?

Like what?
What is the PC word now? "Individual of African Origin" or something silly?

Black, you thick ******
Pointless post ass cheese. I just avoid using all things like that.
So you don't say 'black'?

What a ******, I sure hope you're in Nottingham next year.
Actually, if I were to discriminate in such a manner I probably would say black. The fact is that I don't compartmentalise in such a way.

Why do you hope I'm in Nottingham? Going to hunt me down like a thug?

Don't try and switch it round now and act all innocent. Your above comment (now lionised in my sig) was blatantly something you said due to the issue of Laura Walker saying coloured, being raised in the first place.

What, and qualify your conservative brand of racism?
No, just wondering why you "hoped" I was going to be in Nottingham... you're weird.

Did you seriously use the term "coloured?" That's extremely offensive.

EDIT: didn't see that other people had said something already. Honestly LW you're using your full name and loads of personal details, then saying "coloured." Not good for a future legal career.
This isn't about semantics. Coloured is an offensive, out of use term for black people. It is better to call them black or Afro-Caribbean. If someone called me coloured it would be literally one step below calling me a ******--that's how offensive it is.
