Course Applied for: I applied all my six choices to StA for varying mixes of modern languages...
- Triple Modern Language (French, German & Spanish)
- Triple Modern Language (French, German & Spanish) with Integrated Year Abroad
- French and German
- French and German with Integrated Year Abroad
- French and Spanish
- French and Spanish with Integrated Year Abroad

Offer: All six conditional; ABB
Thinking of taking it (i.e. conditional or firm?): I only thought that they'd accept two out of the six and so thought that most of my decision would have already been made for me... but i think the Triple Degree with Year Abroad will be my firm.

The T900 did look interesting but I feel it possibly spreads it a bit too thinly studying 3 languages right through the degree course. It can lead to confusion and a lack of specialisation by the end of the degree.. but I suppose it depends what you want from the course...

I recieved an offer yesterday to do Latin. AAB. Yay! Was so unexpected after my AS results but it is deffos my first choice... although I am still considering Bristol in the back of my mind...haha very very occasionally! It is the only uni I actually bothered to visit... ironic considering it's the one furthest away. Wooot I am so grateful for for the offer

i did wonder about whether a triple degree would "lead to a lack of specialisation" in the chosen languages... but then it's like any degree, you get out of it as much as you put in. Also, it's compensated by having an extra year added on the end, so it's five years in total for T901.

All 6 choices!!!! Flipping Heck, and I thought I was obsessed!

obsessed would be quite an apt word for me; both with StA and languages in general... looks like we'll be in the same German class anyway... see you there

Nice one.. I was in St Andrews yesterday and I found it quite pleasant really. I'm in Edinburgh at the moment and had a walk around the town and met up with someone studying English Lit and Arabic and she seemed to be enjoying herself. I'm going to have to make a choice between St Andrews and Edinburgh though and I think it may well be St Andrews in the end...

Not necessarily - languages classes tend to be split up into smaller groups. When I did it, GM1003/1015 (I think those were the codes) were split into two classes of around 20 people each, whereas GM1004/1016 in the second semester were lumped together because there were only 9 of us taking it

Update: I was on the open day a couple of days ago and the head of modern languages went through the pros and cons of the triple language course and the WIYA. In his opinion the triple course was good for people who were much more interested in language than literature as by doing 3 languages you concentrate more on linguistic aptitude and have less opportunity to choose from optional modules. He said that it was a lot of work but that 3 languages to honours level would be looked at favourably by employers as it isn't very common. As for the WIYA - it's essentially a year which doesn't contribute to your degree - so you can be as care-free as you wish; the 4 year course requires you to take equivalent courses at a partner university to honours level contributing to your final degree classification. He said it very much depends from student to student which of the two is appropriate. In my case for instance the 4 year definitely suits my purposes better as I want to study languages more for their academic merits rather than for proficiency in them (also why the 2 language course is better for me...).

course: Bsc Economics
offer: AAA
I am thinking of taking it as firm, especially since they didn't exclude my german A-Level, so there's only AA left, which should be fairly easy to achieve.

dunno how much it has to do with my degree, but still:

Mathematics and Geography
IB: 38 points, 6 maths hl, 6 geo hl, 6 english b hl

i have an unpleasant feeling i won't make it
