carcrazymat, thanx. i will be eagerly awaiting the pics

about renting, if i feel that the accomodation is poo after the 1st year, i most probably will rent a house

also, i have a car, but im guessing 1st yrs cant park at uni?
Reply 23
where do you want to park?

it costs £5 a year for parking at Storthes Hall accomodation, spaces are plentiful but they do get filled quite easily however there is an overflow so you can always find a spot.
At Aspley im not quite sure but i think its very limited. At Snow Island like ive said it will cost you an arm a leg and a kidney lol.

Its not worth bringing your car in when you have lectures as you can't park on the grounds without a special permit. Others places to park are obviously carparks but the cheapest i found was £4 for 6 hours in the town centre. you can park in Sainsbury's which is almost opposite the campus and be cheeky and wait for the man in his parking booth to go home

is there wireless internet in storthes? what are the facilities like around there?

would a bike be advisable?
Reply 27
wireless??? nope its a network, and a network only i believe. That's why it can be rubbish, There are rumours that they have capped the connection speed of evrybody unfairly as they want ppl to buy upgrades. This fits the bill as there is advertising showing reduced rates! Im not happy about this as ive bought the best in the first place!

As for a bike i don't really think you will need it. From the furthest point the onsite shop is about 2mins away and the D-Bar is about 5mins away. A bike would be good if you want to keep fit as there are many hills around as Storthes is practically set in the countryside.

snow island, tho has everything within 2 mins walk away, an im always talking to my friend on the net from there she says that its fine, i can send u some pics that she has sent me of the rooms x

A bike would be daft unless its for trails. The hill up to Storthes wouldnt be fun to do with all of your books and stuff after a day of lectures.

I agree with Mat that the bus is canny enough. Aye, it goes up the hill at 2mph and you are crammed on it like sardines at certain times of the day, but its decent time for reading, listening to music or talking to random people (like I did for the first few weeks).

No wireless internet, but you get a network cable to plug into the main (crap) network. Facilities arent too bad. Laundrette is a rip-off and is hectic at times (especially when half of the machines arent working) and the shop doesnt sell much decent food (mainly alcohol and pizza), but the place itself is canny.

ok. what IS the network speed? do they block porn sites? haha
Reply 31
'block porn sites' LMAO

somebody had to ask
do you think with roughly 1500 teenagers living at Storthes they would block porn?

The answer to your question Apache is no they don't!
Reply 32
Does that mean you have tried mat? lol  just messing of course
Reply 33
Yep i sure have chewy

These are pics of my room at Storthes Hall. Its a typical single room, you can also get a double room which im guessing is bigger but i havent been in one yet. The Sink is to the left in the bathroom photo.

Its not exactly what you would call luxurious but its big enough trust me

Cheers, Mat
Reply 35
yeah i always thought the rooms were really a decent size to be fair.

Wow your shower curtain doesnt have black grub marks at the bottom. Most peoples do and even if you request a new one they give you an older one which can turn out to be just as crap.
Reply 36
The only crap thing about the bathroom is how it floods whenever you take a shower...
Reply 37
dont take a shower then

lol. what's the kitchen(s) like in storthes?
Reply 38
How else do you suggest I wash my hair? [Don't say in the sink, tried it and it hurts my back]

Kitchen's are alright. Depends what block you're in as to how big it is. Mine's twice the size of my friends.
Reply 39
Kitchens are decent untill the cleaners start going down hill and your flat mates show their true colours
