In the end, it's not the university that's applying for jobs - it's you. Sure, going to a good university like Birmingham may help you in the initial screening process, but after that, it's down to you. Can you sell yourself in the application form? Can you do well in the online tests? Can you put together a good performance in the interviews? If the interviewers think you're a great fit, they won't reject you in favour of a less suitable candidate who happens to go to Cambridge.
