    Fencing
If you've never tried fencing then, to be honest, you're missing out. It is an exhilerating sport, fun, athletic, and all around cool! It is speed, accuracy, technique, deception and power rolled into one wonderful sword armed sport we call Fencing.

Am wondering how many fencers we have out there, What weapons are fenced (Am geared up for lots of "Épée is better than everything. I'll disagree now, foil is everything in my opinion, and know sabrurists love their slashyness too, so will disagree with you épéeists too! :p: ), Exerience and tournaments entered/entering and so on.

Foil for me. Fencing is actually damn good exercise, really gets you going. I went to a match against Lancing College a couple of years ago, and lost But it's all good fun.

Noticed all the Whoopah screams on scoring points. I just hope for competent refs and exhibit an air of confidence in winning each point.

Now jsut to stop suking for me! Had thought about the plymouth tourney. Would be good to get whupped by everyone there to be honest! But I mean so much to join the fencing association, just for the one tourney!Maybe nest year!

3 years when I was younger. Foil.

Only problem is I got about a foot taller and lost my balance/spatial awareness. Would love to get back into it though.

I've been told that left handers have a distinct advantage in fencing. Is this true?

I've always been keen on wanting to try fencing. However, I just don't have the time at the moment! I'm thinking about taking it up during the summer.

    What are costs like?

The advantage is that most people are used to fighting right handers. That makes things pretty tricky to get our head around whe fencing a eft hander because its all different, and you have to be reative with attacks to get your opponent to open up.

Fencing.... How wonderful! if u have nothing to live for, begin to fence...

I spent 14 years out of my 21 in fencing -
    6-16 - professional fence
    16-19 - amateur
19-21 - excessuve work loads, finishing my studies, extracurricular activities ... and no fencing.... ((((((((((((((

But il take all my stuff and foils to England in half a year..........)))))))

    Try it! it's never late!!!!

    Hi,

My name is Mike, and I'm the Men's Captain of the University of London Union Fencing Club for 2007/2008.

If you're interested in taking up the sport, or fencing for London, please check out www.ulufencing.net.

Otherwise, go ahead and ask me questions here.

We had a bunch of novices start up fencing last September 2006 with no prior experience, put them in a tournament just recently against other novices from UCL and KCL, and they won.

The club can provide fencing kit, so all you have to do is show up in some sports kit, and we can take it from there.

We train once a week, on Tuesdays from 19h30 to 22h00.

Most fencers on the 1st teams are members of private clubs around London to get additional instruction, ie. London Thames Fencing Club.

There's a good fencing club at KCL during term time. The coaching is great, you can borrow all of the equipment and there's a fun social side too. There are separate training sessions for beginners and experienced fencers, as well as a free fencing session that's open to everyone; and the central location makes it really easy to get to. They have a stand at both of the KCL fresher's fairs if you want more information.
