i fence with foil. well, haven't for about a year now- exams and the like getting in the way. it was good fun for the while i did it. definitely a sport where you can see yourself progress fast. i should have thought there are fencing clubs at most universities. it's also something you can do regardless of the weather. always a bonus.

I can't change it. I've tried, but as soon as I do I get rep and PMs and stuff. But I love it, so it stays

I fence sabre and started it as part of my duke of ed silver award. its AMAZING. i havent been going in the past two weeks though coz of homework etc,,,buts its WICKED!!! not as easy as people think it is. we've got quite a few people in our group who have switched from epee to sabre. sabre rules =) you really get to whack someone, but its quite a technical and gradual sport. id recommend it to anyone. anyone trying out for the olympic squad? although ive heard that they've already been chosen.

Nah, they won't be chosen yet. Not sure when the qualifiers are, but it will be based on who is at the top of the rankings closer to the time. I reckon a few of the usuals, Cruse et al.

    Re: Fencing
I have played fencing for three years in Italy and even met the olimpic team in some regional and national contests.
I was no champion but I plaied it with great passion. Had to drop it to go to uni but i plan to retake it in september as I'm moving to Edinburgh university for my last year. My weapon was epée, I chose it because I found foil quite boring because of the restricted target...I was going to pick up sabre but my old maestro told me that nowadays it's become but a suicidal run against your opponent. A bit of a put off. Epée was undenyably amazing though. It made me genuinely happy.

I did it at uni, great sport. I always liked foil best, but tried to do a bit of all three.

    Re: Fencing
I've only ever fenced on family holidays at activity centres in afternoon seminars. Hoping to take it up when I start in Swansea this year.

What are the costs associated with fencing?

    Re: Fencing
Did it from 14 to 17, then had to drop it because I'm living in the countryside, the club was far away, school hours started to reach into the afternoon and collided with training hours

Starting again at university :fight: :nutcase:

P.S. Foil, that is! Would like to try sabre as well.
