For what purpose?
Do you mean a subject tutor to help you with your work in specific subjects (usually called a private tutor)? In which case have a hunt online, in the phone book or on leaflets left at school (or ask your teachers).
If you mean someone who delivers a personalised curriculum (all of your subjects in your own home or at theirs) instead of you attending school/college then you need to look more in specialist publications like the TES (available online; but easier to spot the adverts in the paper, out on Fridays)
Good Luck

Oh, sorry, a private tutor then  For help with a specific subject.

 Thanks!
Finding one by word of mouth would probably be best - then you know that you're getting a good one. Ask friends and family - the chances are that someone will know of a good one.

What subject are you looking for a tutor in?

Either History or Music (depends how A2 goes with both of them)

You could try looking in the local newspaper. When I have trouble I also ask my actual subject teachers for the odd hour of help.

Thanks for the links.

The problem is, I would ask my school teachers, but that's partly why I am looking for a personal tutor, because they're really not that good.

Look on the internet or in the phone book, ring them up and say what you're looking for. If it's an agency, they'll find someone available and probably get them to call you up to arrange a visit. You don't have to pick the first person that comes up though, ask about having a trial session and see if their teaching methods suit you. This is the way I did it last year when I needed a physics tutor, turned out really well! You could do it by word of mouth, but might take longer.

OK, thanks a lot!
Ask your friends, im sure atleast one of them would know a private tutor. The tutors you find in the papers are really expensive; for example : Economics tutor - 1 hour lesson -charges £45....that is over the top in my opinion!!!
20 pounds is about right, I'd say

yep i would say that should be the average charge for tuition. Dont go to anyone who charges more than about £25 !
i think the fee depends on whereabouts u live

my cousin (in wales) payes £15 an hour for chem tuition

my friend (in london) payes £50 an hour for chem tuition
either that or their bother very lucky/unlucky respectively

I've got a superb maths tutor who charges £44 for 1 hour 30 minutes, but he tends to go over most weeks as well (i live near London).

Well, I'm not in London. Out of my friends, well, no-one else does A2 Music (or infact anyone else at all), and I don't think my History friend would know :frown:
