Civil Engineering Degree
Hope you can help;
My brother is wanting to do a Civil Engineering degree, and will probably be predicted grades of BBB at A2 - Maths, Physics, IT or Design
Have been through the whole UCAS process myself, but have very limited knowledge regarding engineering and things that will aid the application in terms of PS (eg.extra-curics, publications read etc.).
Any help and advice regarding the above in terms of;
Best uni's;
General grade offers;
Further steps;
would be very much appreciated as i want to help him get a decent place.

Well he has the core subjects of Maths and Physics.
What I need to tell you now is that 99% of Civil Engineering courses are accredited, which means that your brother will learn the same stuff where ever he goes, and it has to be to a certain level. This means that he is picking universites for what they appear like to him (city life, campus life, etc).
Here is a good thread for background reading, and I urge that he curls up with at least one of these books

The official institute for Civil Engineers is the ICE, they have a good website
Looking at BBB, he falls between the MEng and BEng area. With ABB/BBB he will probably be able to get on an MEng and with BBB and below he will probably be able to get on a BEng. What I advise, is that he applies for several unis, asking for MEng and BEng. If he does well at most unis he will be able to swap up to an MEng, if he starts on a BEng, which is my intention at Newcastle
If he is quick (14th March) and in Yr 12 he could apply for a headstart course, they always look good on the UCAS app form http://www.headstartcourses.org.uk/applications.php
Sadly this year, there is no focus on Civil
If he misses that deadline (just do not), he could go to an Easter thing at Loughborough http://www.lboro.ac.uk/eng/engflyer/pages/eventscontact.html
