Personal Statement for Economics and Finance

Hi

I'm applying to both LSE Economics and LSE Finance. What should my personal statement be like? Btw I'm also applying to Cambridge Economics, UCL Economics and Warwick MORSE.

Thanks

That's risky, I'm not sure how you'll cater for both. Do LSE not offer Economics and Finance or something?

No... LSE offers these two separate courses by two departments

It's a hard decision because I would definitely apply to Cambridge Economics but I want to pursue a career in finance.

You don't need any specific degree for a career in finance.

Cambridge Economics places extremely well in finance. I think it having the highest median salary of all UK degrees holds testament to this.

Hey,

I'm at LSE atm doing maths and econ, I would highly recommend doing econ over finance as the set of possible careers in finance is simply a subset of those from economics (I think ive been doing too much maths....)

Personal statements are very important at LSE as they don't interview so its all you really have to differentiate yourself. Make it 95% academic only spent a few lines on extra curricular stuff. English is very important we need no grammatical errors or spelling mistakes, just make everyone you know read it over to check.... um its hard to think of anything more specific I would be happy to look over any drafts you have quickly.

Mike_123 I would contest your claim that BScEcon at Cam has the highest median salary
Cam Economics - 33k http://university.which.co.uk/university-of-cambridge-c05/economics-3-years-9000-l100-13240
LSE EME (Economics and Econometrics) - 35k, source is from LSE website I think it maybe restricted for students and staff but here it is anyway http://www.lse.ac.uk/intranet/CareersAndVacancies/graduateDestinations/eGems/Home.aspx
