RAF Firefighter? hmm?

Hi guys!

So, I really wanted to join up as a Snowdrop, however, I lack the English by one grade.. silly really, as a result how hard is it to get into the Firefighter role? as that's thee only one open to me that I find interesting, I get the feeling it's one of those star roles and because it's so popular it's always full up and seriously hard to get into? correct me If i'm wrong?

If you could enlighten me with some info and push me towards calling up to apply for the role that would be great

I looking into apply for fire fighter as well. I popped down to my local AFCO recently for a meeting and said I wanted to apply and asked a lot of questions including waiting times etc. Because they don't give out application forms anymore (new system) you have go online to the main RAF site and call them to apply. He told me they should let you know what the waiting times are and said Manston only takes on trainees twice a year, I think February and October. So just before those two dates they send a group off to basic training.

Before you get any start date and while your waiting you'll be sent off to Manston for a 3 day interview. Day 1 introductions, kit, bleep test (level 9 or above pass) sit ups, press ups,
ladder work, hose run (6 or more to pass), cage run. Day 2. Presentation, group tests, written assignment on what you know about the role and RAF. Day 3 the interview then home. This info is based on chatting to people so im not sure if it accurate but i know it close from what the AFCO told me.

If you pass the 3 days then its back for a medical, eye test, hearing test, 1.5 mile run on treat mill and another interview. Complete and pass all that then you'll get a start date for basic training at some point which is 9 weeks in Halton.

lol I don't know if any of this was any helps but when I apply and call them up ill let you know everything I find out including waiting times etc

Well, that is a great and useful deal of information so thank you very much, I called up this morning, and applied for the role, However they are oversubscribed so i'm on the waiting list now (of course i knew that already because i expected it to be popular) so now it's a waiting game, however, I'm glad, cause gives you time to prep, specially as i haven't run since school! so a few years back, does anyone know how long the wait time is? I hear it could be from a week, to a year in some cases!!

thanks
