MPhil Dissertation Research Proposal

I was just wondering if those of you who have had to write a research proposal for a dissertation when applying for a masters programme had any advice to offer? How specific are we expected to be about research methods, etc? Or should it just be more of a general outline of the issue we're looking into? Thanks!
You dont have to into great detail. Three or four of well thought out paragraphs is all that is needed. Explain the topic you are interested in, put forward a couple of different avenues/ideas you would be interested in exploring within that, briefly explain how you would go about it. The other important things are 'why this topic is worth doing', and 'why I'm the right person to do it'.

Its fine to be a bit vague - if they are interested in what you are proposing they will explore all the more detailed stuff at interview.
