What a cynical world we live in. A world where divorce and remarriage is more accepted than two people of the same sex who love each other getting married. I hope they do/did get married.
They are breaking the law, and should be taken to court.
****ing conservative pricks. I hope these two guys take it further.
But gay marriage is legal in the US now :s-smilie:
It's highly obnoxious that some conservatives are determined to resort to illegal actions to try to frustrate the rule of law.

If you feel that your personal feelings render you incapable of carrying out your official function in full (which for any county clerk in the United States would include issuing marriage licences to gay couples), then you should find more suitable employment, just as a Muslim would not work in a brewery or a Jew would not work in a piggery.

If your religious values are at odds with carrying all your official government duties, then you are clearly unsuitable for the position and should resign (or be fired)

I hope they take severe legal action, ******** disgraceful for them to turn around and deny the marriage for no perfectly humane reason.

~Waits for the morons to enter the thread and start whining how gay marriage is awful~
Also, it's highly irresponsible for county officials to behave in such a way that will invite a lawsuit. This couple will be able to apply for a writ of mandamus requiring the county clerk to issue the marriage licence.

Which begs the question; what kind of person would be happy to see the county treasure drained (and consequently money taken away from important county services) with a lawsuit that they will lose, just to make an obnoxious stand that resembles a child throwing its toys out of the pram?

I saw a Conservative Christian blogger, who is emphatically opposed to gay marriage, point out that there is no moral judgment implied in issuing a marriage licence. That is a state function and the clerk is hired to perform what is essentially a mechanical and automatic function, not to act as judge and arbiter of morality. Will county clerks now be able to determine which marriages they want to allow and which ones they will not?
You get this sort of problem in the UK with local Government. The problem is they're typically self-serving idiots. They try and find more excuses to not help you, than help you.

Marriage is the social structure about a man and a woman creating a family, society has always accepted that.

Gay people can't reproduce.

Welcome to the 21st Century. Where gay people can get married and adopt. For as long as there have been straight people there have been gay people. Only now are they beginning to be accepted. If you can't accept that then it would be a waste of both of our times arguing. Good day, sir/madam.

No. Marriage is just not what you described it to be.

So you are redefining what marriage is nowadays? Marriage is always between a man and a woman.

We won't accept your twisted version of marriage that you are trying to make us accept, real marriage is between a man and a woman.

Do you think infertile heterosexual couples should not be allowed to marry? Or those who don't wish to have children?
