Will the working class, middle class be destroyed in the UK,US?

On the basis of automation, increased competition from emerging countries, globalisation (shifting of production), lack of credible policies from government.

Read on the FT the "middle class" in the US household income has slightly declined in the last 11 years. - Lots of middle class professions will face drastic falls in income over the years.

Increased competition has not resulted in a net employment loss, rather just a transition to the service sector.

The middle class is currently weakening one would argue due to a combination of declining home ownership and low wage growth however that in turn is strengthening the working class on paper given increasing employment rates (not that people vote along such lines anymore).

Automation could theoretically cause a rise in the underclass and weaken the working class (the middle class still have capital assets).

Proper government policy could stop the weakening of the middle class (in many countries its not occurring) until we get any problems resulting from automation.

Well the current trend is a shrinking working class, with the middle class now outnumbering them by a fair margin.

However as we have already seen, Automation has had a negative effect on the working classes, less work, and the work that does exist for them is now becoming shorter part time jobs. Those jobs may pay similar rates per hour, but result in a lower wage due to the lack of hours.

However the US from my understanding is slightly different, especially seeing their economical climate.
