A dog breeder has a white, long haired female dog. She knows that the genotype of that dog is bbss. She wants to find out the genotype of a black, short-haired (unrelated) male dog of the same breed. She crosses the two dogs.
i) Write down all he genotypes that can give the phenotype black with short hair.

ii) Use genetic diagrams to predict which puppies will be produced if a black, short-haired male dog of each genotype was mated with the white, long haired female dog.

iii) How could the dog-breeder find out if the black short-haired dog was true-breeding (homozygous) for both characteristics?

C. A dog breeder has a white, long-haired female dog. She knows that the genotype of that dog is bbss. She wants to find out the genotype of a black, short-haired (unrelated) male dog of the same breed. She crosses the two dogs.

I. Write down all the genotypes that can give the phenotype black with short hair.
The genotypes for the phenotype with black short hair dogs is BbSs

II. Use genetic diagrams to predict which puppies will be produced if a black, short-haired male dog of each genotype was mated with the white, long haired female dog.
BbSs = black short haired coat dog (male)
bbss = white long haired coat dog (female)

Bb Ss
bb Bb bb bb Ss
