Ask the Uni!

Hello, everyone! Laura and Corina here - we both work at the University of Worcester and are here to answer your questions about courses, joining the university, studying here, social life, what Worcester is like, etc. We'll try find the answers for you even if we don't have them ourselves. Otherwise, we will guide you to the right person/department.

We were both students here, so we know what student life is like at Worcester and we can give you our tips on how to make the most of it.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Corina and Laura!

Hi there, thanks for the question. How exciting that you know now where you're going to live soon.. It's great that you are based in the St. John's campus, if you didn't have the chance to come to one of our open days, I can tell you that it is where most of the halls of residence are, along with other University buildings for teaching and social learning. Also, the Students' Union is based on this campus and most of the first year students will be living in St. Johns, so you will have a great time.

Vesta Tilley is categorised as en-suite accommodation, so you will have your own bathroom! You will be sharing the flat with 5-6 other people, everyone will have their own room, but the kitchen is common. The room has a single bed, a big desk and a wardrobe and, of course, the bathroom with washbasin, shower and toilet.
The kitchen is normally equipped with everything you need, but if you want to have your own plates or cutlery, that's fine. There are laundry facilities around the campus, but you need your own washing powder. The washing programme is £2 and £1 for the tumble dryer.

Hope this helps. Let us know if there is anything else you want to know.

Enjoy the summer,
Corina

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. The information about car parking is on the website: http://www.worcester.ac.uk/your-home/student-car-parking-information.html and it will be updated soon with the fees for 2015-2016. Keep an eye on the page.

Hi there, thanks for the questions.

Awesome accommodation choice, you'll be based in the city centre, so you will have everything - shops, bars, restaurants - just minutes away from you. You'll have an en-suite room, but you will share a big kitchen with other 5-6 people. There is a TV in the kitchen and the TV licence is covered in the rent. You will have free internet access and all bills included, 24-hour security and emergency maintenance, content insurance, recycling facilities and facilities for self-catering.

The hall is a non-smoking building.

Hope you'll enjoy living there. Let me know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Hey, I'll be staying in a house on Bransford road, in St John's area. I was wondering if you could give me any details on the area or what it's like? Thank you

Hi there, thanks for the question. You'll be based on St John's Campus where most of the students will live, which is great because you can meet lots of new people! You'll probably have lectures on this campus, and the great thing about it is, everything is all in one place and less than a five-minute walk. However, if you happen to have lectures at Riverside or on City Campus, don't worry, it's just a fifteen/twenty minute walk from St John's!

You'll live in a flat with four/five other people with whom you'll share the kitchen and the lounge area. There's a bathroom, shower room with toilet, and another toilet in each flat. Some students who used to live in these halls said the rooms were the cosiest, we hope you'll have a great time there!

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi there, thanks for getting in touch. Bransford road is a short walk from the St John's Campus, and you can get the bus to get to town as well. You have Sainsbury's and Co-op supermarkets nearby, where you can get your shopping done. We can't give you details about the house, but we hope you'll enjoy it there!

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hey Laura and Corina. My name is Shantel Martin. Im starting this September and I was wondering if you could please tell me all about LED 06 Ledbury Halls as that is where I will be staying. Also, can you tell me how far it is from the Geography Department as that is what I will be studying.

Furthermore does anyone know when freshers week starts.

Heey, thanks for getting in touch. Firstly, congratulations on being accepted here, at Worcester. Are you excited about September? We certainly are.

So, Ledbury Halls...it's in St. John's campus when most of the freshers will be based and where the main University buildings are located. You'll share a flat with 4-5 other people, but you will have your own room, so you'll only share the kitchen and the bathrooms. There's a bathroom, shower room with toilet, and another toilet in each flat. The rooms are nice and cosy and the whole campus is green and lovely, we hope you'll like it.

The great news for you: the Geography department is also based on this campus, so you'll be 5 mins away from where you'll have your lectures. You'll have access to lots of specialist equipment and great facilities like digital mapping and visualisation suite, labs and river monitoring stations. Hopefully, you'll enjoy it here.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi there,

I have been allocated Wulfstan (I think I spelt it right?! :P ) halls, and I was hoping you could answer some questions.
What are they like?
How often are the toilets cleaned?
Is there wifi?
Is there a long pinboard above the bed like in the ensuite rooms, or just the small pinboard above the desk? I couldn't tell in the pictures and the amount of photos I bring depends on this!!

Thank you!

Hi!

Thanks for getting in touch. Wulfstan is a great place to live! You'll be sharing the flat with 5 other people but you will have your own bedroom. The bathrooms in your flat are cleaned every weekday (Monday to Friday) by a cleaner and yes, there is internet access in your room, unfortunately it's not WiFi but a broadband cable that you can plug into your laptop - however, in the main university buildings there is WiFi. In regards to the pin board there is a small one above the desk - but even if you don't bring enough photos you can always get some printed when you're here!

Hope this helps,
Laura

Hey there! My question is about freshers, I won't be coming to all the night events so I'm not going to purchase a freshers band. Can I just pay on the night for the events I want to go to? I'm thinking Bavariam night and the sports and societies meet n greet night.

Thanks

P.s. Can you buy individual tickets for freshers ball?

I'm in Ledbury too Shantel! LED 07 F - perhaps next to each other?
