why did my dental hygienist not pick up my tooth decay

i had a dental check up the other day and the dentist said to me i need a filling for the first time, i am 28 it was the first time i visited a dentist for about 6 years, but i have been regularly visiting a dental hygienist to have my teeth cleaned to have plaque and tartar and stains etc removed, she would always say oh your teeth are healthy there are no decay anyway . i know it is only one tooth which had some decay on it, but i was wondering why my dental hygienist not pick up my tooth decay?
Go and see an actual dentist if you think there's a problem.
Likely because they mightn't do as detailed a check up, they're not actually a dentist and decay can appear in a few months. You ought to see a dentist every six months, problems can come up in that amount of time - I've had it happen.
Maybe he/she sucks at their job
