2016 Physics Applicants

Thought I'd start a thread for general discussion between physics applicants for the 2016 cycle.

A few questions to get started:

I'll start!

A Levels chosen and predicted AS grades

At AS I took Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and RS and I'm hoping to get 5 As on the 13th . Definitely dropping RS.

Favourite areas in physics?
I have special love for astrophysics but I like pretty much all areas of physics!

Best and worst exam

My best exam was probably Edexcel C3 maths or OCR F322 chemistry. Worst was definitely AQA physics unit 2 (it wasn't even hard :frown:).

Universities you're looking at

Grades permitting I'll probably be a applying Cambridge (natsci) Imperial, UCL, Warwick and maybe Bath.

Anything physics related you're doing/planning to do over summer?

I have a ton of books to read and I'll probably have a go at a few physics Olympiad papers at some point.

I'm sort of applying for physics

A Levels chosen and predicted AS grades
Maths, further maths, physics, chemistry
AAAA

Edit: Got AAAA, predicted A*A*A*A* now

Favourite areas in physics?
Quantum physics  I like pretty much all area of physics. Electricity is a pain but it is interesting nevertheless...just a pain. A big one though. :ahee:

Best and worst exam
Edexcel Chemistry unit 2 and AQA Core 1 were the best.
Worst is AQA FP1 and physics unit 1

Edit: Apparently I was wrong about Physics unit 1

Universities you're looking at
Cambridge, Edinburgh, Durham, Bristol, Imperial

Anything physics related you're doing/planning to do over summer?
A placement at a research lab, EPQ and reading

Hopefully neither of us will be starting a physics course next September

Oh yeah
I won't be either way, I'm not applying for straight physics anywhere

Oh right, I did think you were more of a chemist . You'd think as a physicist I'd like physical chemistry a lot more than organic, but organic can be pretty interesting.

I'm applying for chemical physics so a lot of physical chemistry  I may transfer to straight physics after fist year though, i will see
Organic seems to be interesting too but it didn't excite me as much as physical chemistry in AS level

Lol,so I guess you weren't moving energy levels when you did organic chemistry lol.

Nah I stayed on the ground firmly
A levels: french, biology, chemistry, physics, maths and further maths.
Predicted grades: AAAA dont have predictions for french or fm
Favourite bit of physics:quantum physics.
Best exam: chemistry unit 2 worst was further pure 1 or stats.
Universities: not really sure yet have thought about cambridge oxford and icl

Sad to hear that :frown:. What were the As in?

Physics, French and Biology. I'm think of getting my core 1 paper remarked.

I got the 5As I wanted . You should still be in a decent position applying to universities with an A in physics! I definitely recommend a remark if you genuinely feel you performed better than your mark shows

Oh no :frown:
Are you off to the other place then? They seem to give no damn to AS

Bonne chance :yy:

The other place? With a remark if its better i should still be in a good position. Otherwise im hoping my teachers will express how good i am at maths (trying not to sound big headed here, but i haven't handed in a homework with less than 100%)

I would think so given how i was doing in maths all year, but i don't really remember the exam, and it was my first one so it is possible that the exam pressure got to me too much. I'm 3 marks off and A (in c1) but also only 3 marks away from a C, so I'm a bit worried about doing worse than originally.

In that case it may be worth requesting your script first
