Gap years are great, generally, I think most people would agree. But this is a soc for those of you whose friends are away at uni, who don't do a lot or go out much because of this, and generally can't wait for next September or to go travelling later in the year!

Damn right. I dropped out of university early on in favour of a gap year, god knows what I was thinking, at least when I was there I had something to do and people to go out with... Now i'm just stuck in a crap job earning money for university whilst my friends are all away having a hoot!

Brilliant idea for a soc! My one other friend who's on a gap year has just got a job in Wales so I've just lost my only friend! Well, I have two friends nearby as they're at uni in London but am I the only one who gets sad when you're around uni friends talking about how great uni is? One of them just doesn't get it that I don't want to stay at her flat because it just gets me down! I know it sounds mean but it just gets me down so I end up wishing that I hadn't gone out!

i similarly just dropped out of uni due to not liking the course or the place sadly the people were great & now i can barely comprehend why i left. This matter is only made worse by the fact my parents have now gone on holiday for 3 weeks so i am completely alone especially in the evenings. I dont even have an earning job instead a ridiculous situation where i have to work for a few weeks whilst they decide whether i am suitable to work in their small computer store. Any idea how i could meet people i am limited to evenings sadly i feel like just moving back to my halls i still have a months notice so still have my room there & catered meals.

Same really, but I have a couple of friends who've finished GCSE and went to college and are still at college (in my town)...

Count me in. I do a French class and still have music lessons. But I just spend so much time on the internet and have generally achieved very little so far. I can't really go away because I need to keep practising my instruments.

It wasn't something I chose willingly, although I had a feeling I'd have to hang up the whole idea.

It was due to my parents pressure (kindly, and welcomed) because of my health. I don't want to list all of my little medical vignettes, but essentially I'm in no fit state to go. The worse thing is I had to cancel a trip to Russia before Christmas also...smacks of the comical, at some level.

Thankyou for your support .

I'm scared I might not be able to go travelling due to my health (oh and money issues) but if my health was fine, I'd make a huge effort to sort out the money side of things! *sigh* I wish I could go to Russia! I'd love to see the place, maybe do the vodka train.... I'll have to do it after uni me thinks ;yes;
