Need help with Latin assignment due on Monday!!!

I have a Latin assignment due on Monday, and I cannot figure out a translation for this sentence:


uiro multa allocuto et ferociam uxoris recordato Alcumena tamen nil respondit.

It is the 'multa' part that is giving me the trouble. I know it is part of the participle phrase, but what exactly does it describe? The best translation I have so far is:

Alcumena, however, responded nothing to the man, after he addressed and recalled the much fierceness of the wife.

The sentence still sounds very 'Latiny'. It might read better if 'multa' was the noun meaning 'monetary penalty/fine' and therefore the object of 'allocuto'. However, this is doubtful as we have not learned this definition in class yet. Any help would be wonderful!!

Looks to me like it could be a case of ellipsis, i.e. with the word 'verba' missed out. lit. 'with the many having addressed her with many words'.

Also, if I were to be picky, I would say 'did not reply' rather than 'responded nothing'. If you wanted to show that you'd understood 'nil' as opposed to 'non', I would say 'said nothing in reply'.
