AS Advancing Physics- What's it like?

I'm just about to go into sixth form. Physics is my favourite subject, I hope to do well in Edexcel iGCSE physics and am considering it as a degree.
The board my School does is OCR Advancing physics, and we've been given the old textbook for it.

I don't want to sound pretentious, but from what I see from the textbook and the course, it looks boring as hell. There's very little of the interesting stuff that I actually want to study, and more of the medical/engineering sort of physics. The textbook doesn't read well and the spec is unhelpful.

Does anyone here do the course and tell me what it's like/how they got on with it?

I just had high hopes for A-level physics and so far...it's been a disapointment.
