You're not as bad as I thought. I'm still on the unpaid internships stage, with no saving. At least I love what I do.

LMAO @ not as bad as you thought. How bad did you think my life situation was

LOL :frown:

I had other jobs with more hours before then, but the main answer is by living with my parents.

What's your yearly salary? I assumed it was 31k, and a typo, rather than 3.1k because the latter is way too low.

3.1 x 12 = 37k

3.1 was monthly

People generally state yearly salary, not monthly

So you said "I wish" because you thought someone was asking if you made 31k every month?

I am in the same boat, I have a management degree though. When you get no responses for graduate level jobs you just lower and lower your expectation to a point were I would take any job just so I don't have a blank period on CV.

Mate just keep applying it's a numbers game. Since I had my job offer I have been offered 6/7 interviews. Keep applying send as many apps as possible. Look on websites that most grads don't know about such as university of London careers group it's open to everyone

Degree: BEng (Hons) Digital Forensics and System Security
University: Coventry
Graduation Year: 2011
Job: Senior Cyber Security and Forensics specialist.
Salary: ~£75-80k inc. bonuses and shares + Bens
Previous jobs since graduation: Senior manager for a large distribution company and a Cyber Intelligence Analyst for a large defence prime.
Future plans: Bag a lead role somewhere cushy in London and settle in for the long haul. I don't have ambitions of moving up to Manager/Director level any time soon - I want to remain technical for as long as possible. Perhaps in about 5-10 years time, I could probably see myself moving up the chain and probably finishing up in a CISO role somewhere by the time I reach 45.

Proof that you don't need to go to a top 40 university to get a good job !

I know how exasperating it can be on the dole but be very careful of applying to crap jobs as a stop gap because it's a difficult trap to get out of. I graduated in 2012 and spent the best part of 2013/2014 working in terrible jobs between unemployment just to stay out of the dole offices. I was in a never ending cycle of working crap jobs to keep off the dole but the crap jobs were either temporary or the companies went bust quickly (I worked for two well know employers who both went into administration).

When you work in crap jobs you don't appear relevant or competitive for grad schemes and as the years go by the value of your degree decreases (can't apply to most grad schemes after 3 years) plus all the time that you're working means less time to make decent applications for grad level jobs and you just believe less and less in the worth of your education. I ended up doing NVQs at college on my only day off to get into vocational trades and I did online courses to get into entry level jobs. All the while disregarding my degree as irrelevant because it wasn't getting me anywhere. Now, 3 years on, it really is.

It was only this year that I put my foot down -I quit a ****ty job which had breached a whole manner of laws (one of the ones that subsequently went into administration) and spent Jan-June this year entirely reorganising my entire life which has involved getting a new job, moving across the UK and deciding to return to uni.
My advice is: if you want to take a low paid none grad role as a stop gap then search and apply for ones that are relevant to you career ambitions (I.e. don't do door to door sales if you want to be an engineer). Don't pick any old **** and expect your life to improve because rather than being hassled by the dole you'll be hassled by a boss who has about 2 gcses and even less braincells and you'll be doing soul destroying work for peanuts with barely any room for progression.

Set your sights on a particular career, while you're on the dole get work experience (even better, organise it through the job centre and get your travel expenses covered) and apply for anything remotely relevant as a stop gap alongside applying for better roles.

Something you may or may not know: if you quit a job it's classed as putting yourself voluntarily into a state on unemployment and you will not receive any benefits. The only reason I was on the dole after quitting my ****ty job this year is because I proved to the DWP that my employer breached laws and mistreated it's employees (you needed solid evidence with dates, names, locations etc)- only valid reasons such as this will enable you to quit a job to claim benefits. So there's no point in signing a contract for a terrible job that you know you will hate because if you quit without good reason the dole will have nothing to do with you. So while you're on the dole, I advise that you don't hurry off it to do anything that looks explorative or uses the word 'commission' a lot, 'ote', is a pyramid scheme or is offered by the job centre through a back to work scheme (my previous job was organised through one such scheme and the DWP were part responsible for the fall out).

This is probably one of the most important pieces of advice here.

I just graduated, looking around and let me tell you guys something tons of dodgy stuff all over these job sites. "Financial advisor" jobs which are actually door to door or cold calling and what not. A quick Google search of reviews of many of these firms instantly reveals the truth.

Though luckily I've come across a few decent sites which look very good and found some decent stuff.
The biggest joke jobs are the commission based jobs with no Base salary funny thing is they all operate from the same building in london.
