Stuck between two universities

Hi my friend is stuck between two universities, Aston and Coventry to study accounting and finance or in Aston accounting and management,

He knows Aston is a good university but Coventry has also improved a lot in the ranks.

ADS about Aston
He gets to stay at home to save money
His brother went to Aston therefore can help and give contacts
Aston is a good uni for business

ADS about Coventry
He gets to move away from home and experience life independent whilst enjoying uni life and meeting more people
He gets to experience a new city and a place he prefers to "Birmingham"

The main difference is Aston he knows he will work hard but the decision is he thinks he will have a more fun experience at Coventry...

Decisions? Thank you

Hey there,
It's great to hear he's considering Coventry.
I would say that with University, the most important factor in your decision has to be the course. You're going to be dedicating the next 3 years (at least) of your life to study it, so wherever you are, if the course isn't right for you, you probably won't have a great time.

Coventry has a great careers service, and puts a lot of emphasis on professional experience, so there's no doubt your friend will gain a vast number of industry contacts here too. We also offer the 'No Hidden Extras' scheme on specific courses of study, of which Accounting and Finance is one. This means that your friend will have access to all core text books required for their course, without having to pay any extra for them, and as well as lots of other things which you can find out about here. So they might not actually save as much money as they think by staying at home, as text books and field trip costs can add up quickly.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to get in touch. Your friend can contact our admissions team on 024 7765 2222 to discuss his options. All the best to your friend with their big decision!

Hello,

Having to choose between 2 universities is always a difficult choice, but we do agree with Josh, the course itself is the most important factor in your decision. What we can say about our Accounting and Management course is that it's one of the highest rated in the country - Accounting and Finance subject area (which includes the course your friend is interested in) is Top 20 in the UK in the 2015 Complete University Guide.

We also have a dedicated Careers & Placements team who works closely with students to ensure they get the best placements, most of which are actually graduate level positions. So your friend will have a year's professional experience when graduating from Aston.

You also mentioned student experience and the fact that your friend would be living at home. A lot of our students are local and still live at home with their parents - but that doesn't mean they don't get to experience a fun student life. Our campus is in the city centre of Birmingham, which means he wouldn't have to travel very far to visit his friends or meet new people. Plus, the money he would manage to save by living at home (which is a very significant saving) can go a long way in funding a decent social life.

Good luck to your friend with his big decision! If he has any further questions about the course or life at Aston, Emma (our Admissions Coordinator) would be more than happy to have a chat with him. Her contact details are: +44 (0) 121 204 3030, [email protected]

All the best,

Andra
