40 minute commute to University... how difficult would this be?

I'm not allowed to move out due to my parents being morons. So I was wondering if a commute this long would be too tiring or if it's something an individual can get used to.

I imagine you'd get used to as people commute to work but it's a long time and I imagine it would be quite annoying
40 minutes is nothing. It's a fairly average commute.

I had a 60-90 minute commute during my first year. It wasn't that bad unless I had only 1-2 hours of lectures etc.

You don't have to go to uni, you can learn on the net so your parents can lock you in the antic like the wife in Jane Eyre.
40 minutes is fine, 2-3 hours round trip is when it gets to the point of infringing on your social life. Don't underestimate how tiring sitting on a bus/train for hours can be.

A 40 minute commute isn't too bad in itself, just watch out for last train/bus times if you want to socialise on campus in the evenings

40 minutes isn't bad but you wouldn't get the full Uni experience of rolling out of bed with 5-10 minutes until lecture as on campus it's like a 5 minute walk. Also, it's not the decision of your parents!
That's fiiiine. People commute longer to work and school everyday

Hoping to be at UEA 2017, my commute from home to uni is going to be 1hr 20minutes. I'd say 40 minutes is doable. Shame that your parents let you move into halls. Would they let you move into a house for second year?
i will be going to university in 2015 and have the same journey time. It is fine if there is no strikes.
I assume since you're going to uni you must be 18? You're an adult - move out if you want to move out. As for a 40 min commute, that's minimal - it's not an issue.
Depends on the course and contact hours...originally from the west midlands but it wouldn't be a problem if I had to commute to Leeds for my course due to the lack of contact hours.

But then when she escapes she may burn the house down. :P

On topic: A 40 minute commute should not be a hassle at all. (Will you be driving or using public transport)
I've commuted like that to my high school for 3 years and it's not too nice an experience, but you get used to it quickly.
This is how long it takes me to get to sixth form and you get used to it. You'll probably find it alright.

Are you serious? I do an hour and a half to two hours one way. 45 mins is heaven. Many of my mates suffer worse hours than me. You don't know how lucky you are. 4 hours traveling a day or 5 if you stay late is a killer

Yes this OP. Accept you won't have a social life is you are doing over 3 hours a day. It's virtually non existent
Perfectly OK as long as there is a reasonable frequency of public transport, and particularly that you are not tied down to particular times.
Wouldn't that become really expensive?
That's what I used to commute to uni. It's nothing, honestly it'll be fine

I used to get a lot of reading done for seminars on the way to uni. So kinda works out useful!
