Christmas! Children haven't started school yet in many parts of the country. The cricket season has not finished. I know the weather is a tad autumnal, but even so.

Depends on the city. I worked at a H & M in Manchester a while back during the christmas/new year period. Wasn't too bad. H & M doesn't really advertise their sales in the way that Next and Debenhams do, so it wasn't crazily busy.

Check your local job centre - online at https://jobsearch.direct.gov.uk/JobSearch/Browse.aspx

Also phone all big hotels or restaurants in your area that are likely to need hospitality staff for pre-Christmas and New Year parties/events - they start recruiting now.

I would say now. Most of the ones I applied too have actually closed. Look around ASAP
